I really like the CD magnet mount by veckle on Amazon. Rated to hold 5 pounds and really holds my S9+ (and now S10+) well with the metal bar behind the case. It has four magnets in the device and has much better hold than the previous magnet vent mount I was using. Very solid.

^ that is what I’ve done as well, but I don’t have that sweet arm with the extra joint in the middle. I need that.

I’ll dig around and try to find the part number. It’s the jointed arm with an Allen bolt for adjustment, not the thumbscrew variant.

That’s what I do too and it’s extremely effective. @ethernectar posted about doing that some time back and I copied him.
I like the spot. Just wishing for easier one handed placdment/removal.

I’d be interested to see what you come up with. The Mob Armor mount seems to be a great solution and I think it would fit that location.

As well as the console mount, Pro Clip does have an A-pillar mount for 2008+.

My fear with that mount is that it could become dislodged and subsequently turned into a projectile if the driver side curtain airbag deployed. Maybe they engineered it to somehow clear the airbag, not sure. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the side curtain airbag fire down along the window from within the a-pillar? Here’s a schematic:

Oh yes, valid concern for sure. But for people who want it there, I guess the option exists. Most advanced overland rigs end up with something mounted on the A-pillar anyways (or comparably, those with boost gauges in their performance cars). Vent mount ones are a bit unstable, and there aren't many spaces for adhesive mounts on our dashes either - this leaves very few viable choices for mounting.

I personally prefer the dash mount one below the passenger A/C vent that they have for the 2016+ model. ProClip also looks to be one of the least protruding or eyesore mounts to have on your dash IMO.

ProClip sells the Scosche MagicMount XL to go with their mounts, which has a stronger magnet that should be good for the larger phones on the market or for tablets. Probably grabs on to the phone better as well, maybe also if you have a thick case. Seems like their best option for single handed use. Too bad it ends up costing about $55 or more all together just to get a phone mount.

I found the CD drive mounted solution optimal until I discovered the feet of the bracket distorts / damages the rubber just inside the CD drive slot

I've been happy with this setup. Allreli . Made to work with a metal plate stuck to the back of the phone, which messes up wireless charging. So, I took a vent clip, removed the clip part and attached a metal plate. That being said, it looks like the nite ize rig posted earlier by Sinister and that one has a a real phone holder, not the kluge I put together. I've already ordered the nite ize phone holder. I'm guessing its same size mount as the Allreli. I do prefer the base and ball on the Allreli... less advertising.

I can’t stand mounts that block my vents, buttons, or cd. This is the best I’ve found. Fast, easy to use, and rock solid on and off road.

where do you mount it?
On the dash, just to the right of the steering wheel. Able to touch the screen with my hand still on the wheel.

I am going a different route as cannot find a good place in 16+ model to attach my iPhone. As well I didn't want to go with a magnet attachment as you cannot wirelessly charge your phone with the metal plate behind. Will post pictures on Friday when everything arrives. So far I got e-brake attachment.

I am attaching everything to e-brake using RAM components. Here it is the list of components I have bought.

E-brake attachment
Extension Arm
Phone attach

Saw that pelican magnet/case combo. It looks good but would require case change. I am using Spigen case which is very rugged and didn't want to be tied to a specific case.
I was considering mounting like you have done. I was concerned with heat not beeng able to hold the tape with time. As well the nav surround doesn't seems tough. You can see it flexing when you push it with finger. Didn't want to cause potential damage and be force to replace the nav.
Will see how to e-brake set up works. Fingers crossed.

I need a new solution now. The strongest tape still doesn’t hold long enough and is pulling away from the trim again. It’s has now been removed.

I keep on saying it......VENT mount is the best. Easy & cheap. Line of sight without blocking anything, including forward vision. Very reachable...no looking down or fumbling with your phone. Cools phone in hot weather esp when sun shines straight into back of phone.

Just returned the RAM. The X claw sucks for attaching phone (even though it holds well). Going for the ProClip phone holder and attachment which attached under the vent for the 2016+ LC. Based on last year sale dates they should have something coming up next week. Last year offered 20% off.
