OK. Having seen that pretty much everyone realized the Entune Nav System is extremely lame, especially for exploring off pavement, and that tablet/phone based apps are much better, what is the latest view on "holders" for you tablet? I have an iPad Pro 9.7. I would prefer minimal interference with controls, air vents, cup holders, etc. And of course, my wife needs to have a place to sit comfortably when she is riding along (and not being the designated iPad holder.) I would also prefer not to make permanent mods to the interior.

Are the RAM options good enough? Do they work well with our 200-series and, if so, which models would work best for an iPad of my size?

I know there were some older threads on this topic but things may have changed.

I'm subscribed! Interested in learning some of these options as well.

I have a RAM in my 80 and it is perfect. One of my favorite additions. Trying to determine a good place for one in the 200.

Cheers,
Alex

I run the iPad mini 4 w/ this ram mount.
It's outta the way for my passengers.
Had my Windows tablet mounted at first but it was to big. Mini 4 is just right

Pic might help lol

Perfect! How did you mount the bracket? Just bolted to the plastic? Have a photo from the passenger's seat angle?
My buddy Nate who is 6' 4" rode in the passenger seat on the way out to Moab and Ouray with my iPad in the holder and was not bothered by it in the least bit.

My Windows tablet kinda pulled the plastic outwards due to its weight. The iPad mini did not do think about that. The plastic trim the ram mount is mounted to is only held by a few plastic snap-clips up top. There's a bolt further down the column but that does nothing for supporting weight up top where you'll probably want your mount. Up higher is outta the way of the other controls. Play around with it and you be the judge.

Thanks! I have a 2016 and the console area is fairly different. I'll need to look it over. Has anyone used the "post" or "rod" that attaches to the floor?

I've been eyeballing this one:

Joy Factory MagConnect Carbon Fiber Car/Truck Seat Bolt Mount for iPad

No personal experience with it, but it gets good reviews, looks fantastic, and it bolts directly to a seat bolt, so no drilling...

This is from a post a while back. Has a few pictures of what I did.

Figured I'd follow up on this. I got the ram mount with the seat bracket. It was pretty shaky for my taste. Fine on road, but rattled over any bumps. A friend of mine used some stuff called "Sugru" which is plastic material that comes in the form of silly putty that hardens to solid plastic. I used that to "fasten" the mount to the center console. Now that I look at the picture, I could have done a better job of smoothing it all out, but it's covered by the seat, and honestly I couldn't tell in the light of day. The mount itself is tight as a drum now!

I have a 2016 as well and decided to try the tough wedge (or wedgie, as I call it) for temporarily mounting a phone, HAM radio faceplate, or iPad. I do typically use the inflatable add-on for the iPad given the weight. I like it because I can easily switch it between passenger and driver sides and also occasionally run in "backwards" with the HAM receiver sort of behind the passenger once I have everything keyed in.

It may be worth a look but likely won't be as stable as a bolted-on solution.

I did see that option but questioned how stable it would be. I plan to use this off road.

I have no complaints in the stability department -- it did fine in Ouray and I only use it when traveling off road. I'll take some video next time I'm off road with it though that may be outside of your purchase horizon.

Thanks. I'm not in a huge hurry as our off road season is winding down due to other activities. I may get my wife a new iPad Mini for Christmas and repurpose her older one. But I want to see if the iPad Mini will be large enough to see easily with my apps on it. I want to get the appropriate bracket to hold the Mini and I don't want to add yet another case to the mix. For now maybe I'll just duct tape my iPad over the Nav screen. ;-)

Gorilla tape it and forget about it
