Mileage vs. Age Opinions

I'm with @Supra Turbo on the miles matter most. But I think you also need to consider the different generations as a prerequisite, then find the lowest miles/price for that generation, unless the appearance and transmission (or fuel mileage) don't matter to you. I wanted a 2016+ LX so that milted my options and made it easier to narrow down what I thought was the best option.

It is truly the thing that bugs me the most. Frankly I dislike the stupid touch screen controls for A/C. People were successful converting early trucks (2008-2011) to the NAV-less config with separate A/C controls. This is really ideal. I don't believe it was attempted on 2013+ rigs.
Most of the Hvac controls are available as physical buttons on the dash in my 2018 LX. It was on my GX too. The only thing I would lose control of is the rear climate. My GX screen was messed up for probably 6 months before I decided to fix it with a chinese digitizer from ebay.

Not so on 200 TLC. Some asshat at Toyota thought it makes sense to only put "fan off" button but do not include fan control buttons. This is retarded beyond comprehension.

I would LOVE one of your vehicles. Seriously.

Keep in mind however, you ARE the only one on planet earth who treats vehicles so well.

So, yeah. If the OP could get one from you, %100!

In the real world. Highway miles racked up quick is going to be the best deal. Every time.
I sure hope I'm not the only one 🙂 And to your last point, my thoughts on the "best deal" is certainly on the vehicle with 100k less miles at the same price, particularly when its the same model vehicle sans minor updates, and IMO not all which are favorable in 200 series case.

I rather have a 22 year old high mileage than a 50 year old virgin….
I'd rather have both... and at the same time 😜 Which also explains my vehicle ownership history - two of each model. One mint and one driver examples for nearly all out of 60+ cars I've owned. So my final advice - buy both. Ok, maybe I am the only one @manofthewoods lol.

My vote is for the lower mile example all day long, if proper maintenance has been done, particularly when it comes to the same vehicle (ei. LC200, regardless of the year).

We picked up our nearly 10 year old LC with 15k miles.
One of our Supras is over 30 years old and has 68k miles.
The same story with the 17 year old miata with 27k miles.

No issues with sitting months on end, with proper maintenance. All vehicles look, operate, and even smell like new.

Routine biweekly warmups to operating temps followed by 15 minute drives. The LC has never seen snow and the other cars have never seen rain and none are operated at or below freezing outside temperatures. All stored in climate controlled location, all trim, rubber, leather is treated, every 6 months, wear items (ex.fluids, oils, tires) get replaced by date, rather than miles.

Confirm the smell, lol. My 2021 has only 4k miles (I know, shame, but it is a long story), and smells like new. The 2015, bought in 2018 with 50k, is approaching 125k right at least.

I have only bought 2 used cars my entire life. My LC200 is one of them it was 2 years old with 14,400 miles. The other was 1988 Ford TBird turbo 4 with 5 speed manual I purchased in 1993. In both cases I looked mostly at condition of vehicle and asked for maintenance records. I was lucky the TBird was owned my middle aged women she took it to dealer for everything and LC was on lease and owner used dealer for everything.
I am not sure I would pick either. One is to old for my taste and other has more miles than I would want. Then again that is me not you.
I would look at condition to years.
I would check for rust
I would ask for maintenance records
I would ask if they would allow for full Toyota check of vehicle (I offer to pay half cost).
Then pick the one that checked the above boxes best.
Good Luck

i like my calcutta whore. 08 with 296k miles - old and high mileage yet mint and better condition than most mudders trashed 200 series

The only flex earlier trucks have is the color palette.
Newest you can afford all day everyday. Then get the Toyota warranty and let them replace the $9k stereo! (Before 2032 lol)

In case the vehicle smells, interior and or AC, I found an ozone generator left in the car with HVAC fan turned on for say 30 min does wonders.

Ozone kills mold and smells and even roaches, so make sure you do not inhale yourself and vent the vehicle. Please note there will be some ozone smoke from the AC the first couple of days, however thereafter the car does not smell anymore. For clarity, did this on my 2014 535d because of AC smell and the 2021 Land Cruiser once I knew it works great.

Have also used it in the attic of the house to ensure no critters. Did this with remote phone operated electrical switches and when we are not at home. Works great 👍🏻

Example of what I am talking about

the only thing I can flex on with my loser 08, is a 1995 Rav4.

aint no flex in us early ugly trucks

2016+ got 8 inch instead of our 6 incher and got the real flex

I have halogen, clear glass, small brakes, less gears. I am barely a member of the 200 series with poverty spec

Thanks everyone! Helpful input from all.

Re depreciation— Though no one has a magic ball (if so would you please PM me some stocks to purchase?), what is everyone's intuition with respect to depreciation for the 200s?

Do you think that in 5-10 years time the 2016+ will command much higher fees than the '08-15s? Mechanically, they are quite similar (accepting the transmissions), but aesthetically they are, obviously, very distinct.
I have a newly purchased 2014. I think they will all regress to the mean....whatever that is....

If I was looking at low mileage I’d consider where the owner lived. 50k miles in NY is easily equivalent 100-150k miles in the outer suburbs of Charlotte, NC. City miles are hard.

I live in the city but also tow a lot on the highway. I had a bunch of crap that required work around the 150k mark. Steering rack, valley plate, CV, LCA bushings. Some of that is bigger tires, some of it trails, some of it is just constantly being abused by potholes all farking day around here.

I expect my truck to go a long time, even where and how I drive. But 150k on my truck is probably 250k on someone else’s. That said I’d lean newer with high miles if I got a sense from a CARFAX that it was well maintained and probably mostly highway.

Really depends on what you mean by ‘well’. All of those are just normal cars. For me, their entire purpose is to be driven. But to each his own.
