Introduction myself - 105 owner from UK

Hello,

Just joined this forum, although been watching for some time and active on other Land Cruiser forums.

We've got a 2002 105 Land Cruiser which we brought in 2010 and built into an expedition vehicle, and drove from London to Cape Town. We then took a few years out to do the whole kid thing, but took it up to the Artic Circle last summer with our 2 young kids (2 and 4 at the time), and we are currently preparing to do the Pan America next year, and West Africa Route the year after.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Yep Manual. No factory diff lockers tho unfortunately. Going to put front and rear ARB diff lockers in before we go off next year.

Welcome! Many in US lust after the forbidden fruit of 105. Front solid axle and manual gearbox makes for a lot more sturdy platform than our Independent Front Suspension (IFS) version. What changes did you make for your expedition build?

It would be exciting to read more about your travels and how the cruiser performed.

ARB diff locks on my 04 with a factory 80 diff switch for engagement.

If you're driving the Pan America next year, try to plan to come to the Hundreds in the Hills #10 in Silverton, CO at the end of July, 2020. I think you'd find a warm reception.

Can you tell us a bit more about the British offroading scene and Industry? My uneducated guess from here would be that there are relatively few places to go wheeling in the UK and that you do need to go to distant countries to do that, like N. Africa etc. Which I would then think means in turn that there are relatively few people involved in the sport in the UK. Is that the case?

I followed you on IG.

The ARBs have been outstanding. Instant engagement and disengagement. We used this 100 in an off road adventure race and the ARBs worked as advertised. I use them about 3 to 4 times per year in Uwharrie National Forest in North Carolina. The trails are mild to extreme (green to double black diamonds). Rocky terrain.

If you get 100 body on a 80 series frame you got your self a 105.

You guys are better than I am on this traveling thing. After about 200 miles, I am bored and sleeping in the SUV @ a truck stop!

The only reason I can make it for 200 miles is because I have a nice aftermarket stereo system.
