It's easier to plug it into GPS than to try to give directions

Thanks guys! I would love to come to HAMOM! How do I get there?

Yeah come on up that pretty white 60 will look good sitting next to my black beast. Sent you a PM on addey and my cell number hope to see ya there. :):wrench::wrench::wrench:

Doc's address is 3900 Blackberry Lane Sumter, SC. He can chime in with some more detailed directions:) He's got a nice place out there! Hope to see ya there!

Thanks Scott :Nice in a country red neck wrench turning 4 wheeling and shoot it if it moves kind of way!!!!!, I like a good shot of Scotch on occasion too. Its just off 120 south of Sumter carefull of the GPS it might route you into the swamp behind the place and I don't guarantee that the gators wont get you before rescue get's there if you go that way. Come out of Sumter on 120 watch for Cox road the next left is Blackberry lane, and the mail box is marked "guess what" 3900 have a good one and hope to see ya there.

Quick introduction

It was great to meet a few of the guys this past weekend and talk cruisers. As I mentioned I would put up a few of the builds we have done and the trucks I have had. I look forward to wrenching again soon and making a few of the trips.

Alright guys, 1st time LC owner in S'ville. Just picked up a '74 FJ40 for me and the kids to tool around on, learn how to do some basic wrenching, and drive a stick. It was a frame off resoration project started in Chatanooga, and were going to finish it here. Hope to have a chance to meet & greet with y'all sometime soon.

Welcome to the Low Country

Very nice rig! What brings you to Summerville? I live in Summerville as well.

sorry, i misled y'all. I've been in the 'Ville since '86, graduated, served Uncle Sam and then married a high school sweetheart in '93.

This is my first TLC. I started with air-cooled VW's as a kid, continued with a VW as an adult, then been in & out of trucks for last 15 years. The TLC was kinda a wild hair decision; I don't ride the Harley enough and I need to teach the kids to drive a stick shift eventually. I love to be outdoors, so I wanted something we could jump into and go. I had looked for a FJ40 around here locally, but didn't see anything. So, I searched and checked the entire East coast, drove around and looked at a couple between Fla, NC and GA before I found one in TN. Glenn @ Lex-Tech is doing my post purchase shakedown to make sure I know what Ive got to address first.

We live in Wescott, I work all over the tri-county, hope to meet some of ya LC2 (someone posted that a LC2 is a 'Low Country Land Cruiser') folks as I make this a DD and we work on finishing our resto-project truck. Im not one for getting it dirty, but I do like to go where it's not easy to get to.

That's nice, ...welcome to the madness. If you need, let me know and we can put it on the lift and see what she's like underneath.

appreciate that, dbenke. Ive got it with Glenn @ LexTech right now - gotta check how much damage was done to rear diff by a loose driveshaft connection. waiting on the wheel lug lock key to arrive from the PO so we can disassemble and investigate. should be here tomorrow. :bang:

I've got a box of pieces and parts, gaskets and what nots in the garage to start putting back into the 'Yoda' with the kids - they are anxious to learn how to wrench and build our resto project. Ive got a 'want to buy' list longer than a 500PM traffic jam on I526 - AC, PS, disk brake conversion... Will definitely take you up on the lift when we get the truck back... The PO started a frame off rebuiild, we're going to finish it.

Aircooled VW? This my brothers, needs alot of work, been sitting on stands for years now. No engine, and good amt of cancer

Ahh, the memories. I remeber dropping the engine on a Fri night, changing the clutch, and putting it back together so we could goto the beach on sat AM. Throttle cable broke while in Myrtle Bch on Spring Break, had to drive to Conway using a pair of vice grips to pull out and push the cable in. Never had a Hatchback; 75 Super B, 63 Ghia, 74 Ghia, 67 Beetle... the Corrado with Schroll turbo was lots of fun merging in traffic....

Bob & Bill in Summervile with Import Auto Specialists - used to be the Bettel Barn on Trolley Rd - knew their stuff.

Ohh the memories I look forward to living with my kids and the Yoda...

73 FJ40. Bought new for off-road work and some play. Been parked for a decade and has some other problems but I want to get it back on the road at least for short commutes to turn what moves and heat what should get hot and slowly start to work on the multitude of other items. All original except for a gear-reduction starter (but have original) and Warn automatic hubs (but have original flanges somewhere). Still have (again, somewhere) the Toyota tools that came with it. Ran an add-on capacitive-discharge ignition for a long while, which helped a lot with cold and wet starting. Will add something along those lines again.

Use to drive it for 600+ highway miles on one regular trip and would arrive almost deaf. There used to be the rumor that it had non-helical (straight-cut) gears in the transfer case. Never got around to checking. That was supposedly part of the racket. An engine revved to ~3500 rpm (4000 at 85 mph) on the highway was noisy in and of itself. 4.11:1 I think is the final gearing.

Welcome Norge! Ive only been into this with this crew for a short while - but Im addicted. Ive got a 74 that wss 90% restored by the PO. Im having my way with it now....
