Hello,

I have been silently following this form since I met a few guys from the club running the Lower Terminator last summer, and they told me about the club. I have wanted to join, but I have been wrapping up a degree and haven’t had time. Now that I am almost done and my truck is back together I am hoping to start running trails with the group. I plan to be at the next club meeting, but if there is any other registration or fees that need to be taken care of let me know.

Thanks

Welcome. Get with landcruiserphil for membership info.
Nominal fees get you an awesome cool sticker and a haute couture T-shirt

I figured that I may was well introduce myself. I recently purchased an FJ40 that was listed by JDuart. I drove it home and have started the teardown. I have started a rebuild thread here: 1977 FJ40 Rebuild Project - AZ

I am building this rig up as a keeper to enjoy as a weekend toy and camping set-up. I will build a trailer later; first things first.

Is there going to be a meeting this month? If so, I will drop by and meet some of you all.

Welcome Skywagon. There's always a meeting, we're pretty informal so people come and go all evening.:meh:

Introduction: New member

Just bought a '77 FJ40 project from a guy at church.
Rolling chassis + body + truckload of parts. (see attached) We got it to the shop (barn) and are evaluating what we have and don't. It was white originally and we're evaluating what color to go with. We bought it to teach our kids how to turn wrenches. Planning on starting a thread for the project. Looking forward to your input and advice.

I just acquired a 1985 FJ60 a couple weekends ago. Love the truck so far, everything is in good shape (including an almost rust-free body) and have big plans for it. Mostly going to overhaul the interior to "rugged-ize" everything. Ideally, I want to be able to wash out the interior with a hose. As the username suggests, this thing is going to get a little messy. :steer:

Dropping the dues in the mail tomorrow. Turns out I'm friends with landcruiserphil's niece. Glad to be here!

Just show up to the meeting this Friday and bring your dues:idea: much easier

New in Tempe

Hey,

I was at the Tempe meet in May - the one in the Sonic parking lot. I got my first Land Cruiser. It is a 1997, no lockers, and is stock all the way around.

No plans to really modify it, as I got it to explore the backcountry and not climb big rocks. In the process of trying to buy a second FJ80 and currently looking into a 1992 TLC.

I am in South Tempe by the IKEA. If any of you know of any good local camping places where my stock 1997 TLC can reach without getting stuck, I am interested. And I'm looking for a mechanic to work on a check engine light (EGR valve related), and to fix the center locking differential (light in dash will not engage when I put it into low).

Assuming I get a second TLC, I am planning a trip down to Mexico to explore some non-tourist cities.

Tim

Welcome Tim!

Wanted to talk with you about the CDL at the meet, but got distracted. It was the first time some of us were back together after the Moab trip, so watching movies, telling lies, etc. :o

There are ton of places to camp in AZ, more info on what you are looking for would help. Lots of them are easy to get to, but tend to be crowded, less desirable, one of the reasons that most mod their rigs, allows you to get to more remote, less populated places.

I would like to explore the Copper Canyon area, is that on your list?

New to the AZ

Hey!

Just moved to Scottsdale. My wife and I arrived on Wednesday. I drove my '91 FJ80 all the way from Atlanta, GA. No real issues, until we were crossing the mountains. The tractor overheated and I had to transfer our 3 labs to the wife's Mini Cooper, so I could drive the rest of the trip with the heater on. That was a nice welcome to the summer heat.

I've had my Cruiser about a year. Just put 2.5" OME lift on it, and completed my storage box for the back. Other than that, it's completely stock. I've realized that the next mod is going to be some window tint!

Welcome to the furnace!. At least you brought the right color rig with you.

3 labs in a Mini. I'd like to see a picture of that:lol:

Welcome!

Cooling a rig here is much more challenging than most places, most have no concept of what we are talking about!:hillbilly:

Got here on the 7/1 and finally time to post

Hello everyone,
Got here on 7/1 and finally got a moment of free time to introduce myself.
My name is Patrick. Lived in Texas for 25yrs (miss Austin a bunch), was in Chicago for 7 yrs and now I'll be living in Phoenix for the next 3-4yrs.
Gotta house near downtown that requires way too much time and money, a fiance that requires the same and a fat dog.
Below is Eleanor, My 1986 FJ60. Got her about 10years ago.
She's got an OME 2.5 lift, shackle reversal, Aftermarket front and rear bumpers I can't afford to replace, 33 BFG's and brand spankin new unmolested sliders. Oh ans she's carring about 200Lbs of rust!!!!!!!!!!. Chicago salt ate her to pieces.
Anyone want to instruct me on taking care of this mess?
Hopefully I can make the next meet and get some advice from y'all.

ps... Yup, I shipped her here. She smokes when I get over 2.5k rpm. thankfully I only have a 3 mile commute on locals.

New to Landcruisers

My name is James and I live in Scottsdale. I purchased a 1992 Toyota Landcruiser FJ80 in November 2010 from a working colleague that I've been bugging for over 10 years to let me know if or when she ever sells it. Bugging her sure helped and she finally called me and said she was selling her baby. I have always been in love with landcruisers and finally have got one. I would love to keep it and pass it on to my 4, 8 and 10 year old kids. It has 147K on the odomoter and is in great condition. It is not my daily driver. I think I've put about 400 miles on it since I bought it. I have all her mechanical records, which is great. The only issue I've found is it does have some leaks below that I would like to tend to and I need to fix the oil pressure gauge. I hate oil leaks. I don't want to break the bank with it, but I'm hoping that this site can steer me in the right direction for good mechanic recommendations. I'm handy, but not when it comes to opening up engines, transmissions and transfer cases. Nor do I have the equipment for those types of jobs. In the future I would like to put a 2.5 inch OME and 33' on it.

Good morning from Mesa!

Welcome!

I've lived in Arizona almost a year and I am looking for my first FJ 45, preferably a wagon or pick-up. This would be my first Land Cruiser purchase.

They popup once in a while, post a thread about the hunt.

What I would like are these (or something very similar):

blue wagon: http://www.vintageoffroad.com/vehicles/ACF33B5.jpg

tan pick-up: http://www.vintageoffroad.com/vehicles/P1000964.JPG

Word of advice, don't deal with vintage, unless you prefer rear entry :censor: with sand for lube. A search of the whole forum (mainly chat) will net some horror stories.

Does the Copper Club meet?

Yep, the next one is on the 19th. Map here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/az-copper-...cruiser-cruise-thread-check-here-details.html

Is there a website?

Yep, this is it!:hillbilly:

Your best bet is to start a new thread about the issues and fixes, this introductory thread doesn't get enough traffic to get good answers? On an older rig, most shops don't want to deal with them, some do, but takes the right type of shop. Some leaks are easy, common, fixes, posting pix of the issues is often best.

Hello AZ yota folks. Name is Grant. moved out here from NH about a year ago. Sold off my 60 and my buggy before I moved and am looking to find an 80 out here locally that has been well prepped for local trails up to 3.5/4.0 rating - lockers, 35s or bigger etc.. I had a pretty well-equipped Rubicon on 37s that I brought west and wheeled a few times last fall before I sold it. It didnt have a top and the dust and the sun was just a bit too much for my wife and son. Even the dog was too hot. Given that New England is mostly wet and mossy this was a huge culture shock. Anyway, I am going to lurk on the forum while I look for a rig and look forward to one day soon wheeling with you all.

No need to lurk. Attending the meet would likely be a good idea, talk to some owners to see what they like/dislike about their rigs/mods before buying?
