If I keep it SAS is the next step.

Might try to get it done before I move.

SAS is always good stuff, but desert wheeling is very different, may want to try it before deciding on the next mod? We don't have slop, wheel speed, momentum wheeling is not needed, must stuff has good grip, so the ability to go very slow (auto trans and/or crawler box) is a big benefit.

Thanks for the info Kevin.

Welcome! when you get your rig, start watching for posts for trail runs on the CSC site. With the weather cooling, there should be some sprouting up soon.

visiting from Michigan

hey everyone, I'm in Phoenix for a couple weeks of training and heard about your 3rd Friday thing. Is one happening this Friday? If so, I'd love to stop out. My '40 is sitting in the pole-barn back in Michigan, waiting for new soft top bows. (I unintentionally tested my 4x4labs cage a while back) I'd love to see some local cruisers. Matthew

Introduction

Hi everyone. Michael Mahler. '73 FJ40 from Costa Rica. Drove to Tempe and rebuilt the rig from the frame up. Too many changes to list, but ended up with a merge of offroad truck and show truck. I have hard top as well. Heard there are club meetings every month, but haven't found the listing for them yet...

My turn

My name is Kyle and my wife is Joni, sons Jared, Joshua, and Jeshurun. Just moved from North eastern Oregon. Have a 72 40 pretty much stock and an 82 Toyota Truck. Live in Scottsdale. Got a job working for a mud buddy:p
and if you need your back fixed see the wife;) Look forward to meeting people this Friday!

New to the area (and 4 wheeling for that matter)

I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Chan I will be in the Sierra Vista area for at least a few more years. I am looking forward to participating in some of your events.

I am brand new to the sport and will appreciate any advice that you might have.

I got a chance to explore the trails in Ft. Huachuca a little and wow, it's beautiful here.

Thanks again to Jim S. who helped me with transporting the cruiser on my PCS move to Ft. Huachuca.

I finally Got an 80 Cruiser

Hello,

Just wanted to say hi and hopefully meet some cruiser people some day for a trail run. After months of looking high and low I'm finally a cruiser owner. I picked up a stock 97' 80 series, its my early Christmas gift to myself.

The pros
- fairly clean interior exterior
- mildly low miles 160k
- clean carfax
- its mine :steer:

The Cons
- no lockers
- a huge speaker box in the back
- very little service history
- missing right 3rd row seat

I have wanted one of these every since I went on a trail run with a cruiser club a while back. I just couldn't believe how easily they out did my jeep, and dominated every obstacle so effortlessly. Not only did they do it easily but in comfort and style. At the end of the run I felt like I had just hiked it, and these guys looked ready for more.

Near future plans
- New battery
- General tune up
- ARB lockers
- under armor

I would like to see what these things can do in stock form, and sort of build it to my needs. I am also curious what most of the people in AZ are running on their 80's as far as tire size, and lift size for trails like crown king, coke ovens, chiva
falls?

Cheers!

Chuy

I highly recommend coming to a meet in Tempe, or better yet a trail run. Talk to owners, ride in rigs, see what works, before starting mods. My standard AZ wheeling setup recommendation is: OME J front, heavy rear springs, the longer L shocks with 315 tires. This setup rides well, sits close to level, relatively inexpensive/easy to install and is very effective on AZ trails.

Depending on budget/wheeling need, simply tossing an Aussie locker in the rear has proven to be very effective on the trail and relatively well behaved on the road with the '80's full time drive system. It is not ARB lockers, but is a fraction of the cost, ~$300 vs ~$2000.

Nice 40 GregC1!

Hello From Tucson...

Hello, My name is Chris. I am in Tucson and have had my 80 series since 2006. I was introduced to the Cruiser world by my good friend Rick Donnelly who is quite active on the boards here. Now, I am moving to Costa Rica and have to let my baby go....a very sad day indeed. Our family has shared many a camping trip thanks to my Cruiser. I will miss her dearly. The good news is that I think Cruisers are not too hard to find in Costa Rica. I hope the news is true. If you want to take a look at my rig hop on over to the classified section and look for my 1996 Rig. I want to thank all of the members of this board for all of the valuable information that flows through here each day.

New Chandler guy

We picked up the 80 a few days ago. It's a 96 that I got from a owner who mechanicly did everything. I looked at many and this one will go for along time with some PM.
Can't wait to get out and meet your guys and get the fun modding underway.

Tom

^^^ Hey Tom!

Good to see you here on MUD! This is a great place with tons of good people and info. Congrats on the 80, I am sure you are going to be extremely happy with it. Hope to see you and Donna around real soon. Take care!

Hi guys & gals,

Another newbie here, an AZ native living in Phx for about the last 12 years. I recently started looking for a Cruiser.

I'm looking forward to meeting folks at one of the get-togethers and chatting about Cruiser ownership.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of a nice FJ40 for sale please drop me a line to point me in the right direction.

Thanks, and looking forward to meeting y'all!
