Hello all,
Have been lurking for a bit to learn the ins and outs of FJ40s before buying and am now a proud first time Landcruiser owner, having acquired a '69 FJ40 with a 327/4spd conversion a couple of weeks ago. It is drivable, basically sound, with a good body and frame, and a number of small issues to keep me busy. I plan to use it as a daily driver here in Cincinnati, but make it somewhat trail-worthy. I know I need at least a roll-cage, new tires, and shoulder belts before stepping off the pavement.
I got introduced to trails and Landcruisers last fall by a couple of "friends" who took me and my family on a ride-along in their tricked-out FJ55 and FJ60 in Livingston, KY. At first I thought about a J**P, but they said they would leave me and my family in the woods if I ever said that again. By lunchtime I was plotting how to turn my '73 Porsche 914 into an FJ40.
I love that this age of truck is so friendly to work on. Stuff makes sense, and is repairable versus replaceable. I appreciate all the expertise out there and surely will take advantage as the projects mount. So here is a pic or two of my rig.
Cheers.
