Two questions and or comments.

Does Slee make them for the 60?????

Slee offers the same african outback rack for the 60- and 80-series. It fits the 60-series just fine. The only "issue" is that the rack comes with a hatch for the sun roof, which you don't really need on a stock 60-series. The hatch is secured with bolts from below, so you don't really know it's there.

Thanks, I'll check it out but I very curious to see what JB has come up with, He staed in a PM to me that he was going to post some pics of what he's done.

Well here is what I have so far. It is just tacked together. I may remove some of the long supports to save weight. There will be cross bars for extra support as well. The lower portion is all 1" 16 gauge square and the upper rail is 1" round. The upper could be changed to anything.

The next issue is the gutter mounts. New job has me away from home 10-12 hours a day. I hope to finish it soon.

There is a 3 gallon gas can just for perspective.

hey man that looks great. You have some skilz.....

Is there enough room on the rear section to place a roof top tent?
If not. I would remove one section from either side of the up right supports.
As for the mounting hard ware, maybe "Slee" posts could be used instead of fabricating your own.

Looks great all the same.

If I remember right, it is 52" wide and 78" long. Why not mount the tent in the front and have the ladder land on the front bumper, or off to either side.

I have made mounts before for my Range Rover Rack. I will look at the Slee one's as well.

Thanks

You are located in VA aren't you. I think I mentioned I may be driving to VA from SOCAL in Nov. If that's where you are, I'll try and stop by with the 60.

keep working on it, I can't wait to see the finished product. Looks awesome.

Range Rover huh, I had a 91 "Great Divide Edition" before I had my 60. I loved my RR until I had to have it worked on. Traded it in for a new Honda before driving from VA to SOCAL for the Marines. Got rid of the Hunda and Bought the 60 and will never look back. I'd sell my wife before the 60. Sorry dear.

Will a RTT fit in the front with the rails up in the front?

I have a south African Front Runner rack on my 60, they are sold by Campinglab and by Equipt. We have our RTT and some other gear on it and this is the best rack I have found outside of an Inti or a custom 4x4 Labs rack. I can't post pics right now, but my website has some and so does Campinglab.com and Equipt.com

I always found my rover to be easy to work on. I also was "in" pretty good with the dealership and the tech's down there. They were always top notch with me. I tried to do as much of the work myself as i could. All of the Rovers i owned were quite dependable. never left me sitting.

Just an FYI, I contacted Slee about a month ago and he said he was no longer bringing in the African Outback rack or RTT. Really a shame, they are great products.

Did Slee say why that was? I was looking at buy one of his RTTs in the near future.

I'll checkout those other two site with roof racks but I like how JB's is turning out.

mudrak has a pretty good stock of rtts :hhmm:

JB, here are some pics of another Cruiser with an INTI rack. It gives you some really good angles and characteristics of the rack. The frame and stone guard for running lights, the divider that separates the fuel cans from the roof top tent area, and the fact that the side rails which span the entire length of the rack but can be lowered when the tent is unfolded. Not sure how that is done thought.
Just some thoughts if you hadn't seen pics like these.

I finally got into the shop yesterday. After 5 weeks of neglect I had to spend most of the day cleaning up and putting things back in their place before I could start looking at the rack again. I hope to spend some time out there today to work on the gutter mounts. I will post up when I do.

There is no rush. Take your time, we all just want to see how you do in replicating an INTI.
Have fun with it.
Chris

I worked on the gutter mounts today. Not sure if they are the final design but at least I can now sit the rack down on the cruiser with some stability.
