Inti roof rack, where?????

I always thought that Garvin Industries' Wilderness Rack was pretty nice, but the Inti seems to be a step ahead. (No disrespect to the Wilderness; it is nice.) The Inti just seems to be very well thought out. From what I can see in the pics on the la cabra site, it is one nice set-up.

FWIW, I have a fair amount of Yakima gear, but their racks (Load Warrior, or something?) do not impress me.

If I find an Inti, I'll let you all know.

Mule Equipped put out a sweet prototype and was supposed to be making racks for 60/80/100, but I haven't heard anything new, not sure what happened there.

We do quite a bit of fabrication and manufacturing of products in my company. from CAD, to R&D; laser, CNC, machining, welding, production including powder coating or other specialty teflon surfaces, etc.

Not trying to step on any toes, as I am new to this site, and not trying to put my abilities above other fabricators.......but I would be more than happy to use our expertise in manufacturing to bring a Kick-Ass product (oh yeah, and I want one for myself ;) )

If that is something that we can help to bring to the community, I would be willing to get the item, disassemble and draw the complete unit in 3D; then proceed to design a manufacturing procedure for production.

I need multiple detailed pictures in order to get a better idea of design, overall construction, and to provide an accurate gu-estimation as to the cost.

Is there a way to get a "sample" or a series of detailed pictures to go forward.

We would need a sample of the Gutter clamps so that we can draw them up, and have them manufactured as well.

C2, contact "Exiled" above, being that his rack is not attached to his cruiser at the moment, see if he would be willing to take all the specific pics you'd need.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing it for the better of the team.

As far as making it worth your wild, as someone above has already stated. Mud members who have been looking for this rack and can no longer locate it would surely buy one of yours if it's comparable, functional and just as stout as the INTI.

Thanks for stepping up to the plate.
We’ll all be looking forward to the progress report.

Cheers and good luck.

I'd be interested in an Inti-esque rack for the 60. I would really like a rack that has the ability to be just a flat platform, with a light bar, or small lip at the front. The ARB touring rack is close, but the fixed sides come back too far for my needs.

Tnagaway,

The rack you have is an original Toyota. I have tried to find one of those that would fit my high roof, but they are unavailable where I live.

So, did anybody get that guy some pictures?

Awesome guys, I hope smething comes of this. I would really rather have an INTI or INTI type rack than any other, but if need be, I may go with a Con-Fer rack. But until then I'm holding out to see what happens with this tread/build first.

Thanks C2. By the way Is C2 the name of your comapny? My corporation "Controlled CHAOS" (C2) as well.

Thanks again,

That is NO WAY saying anything about the lack of CHAOS, controlled or otherwise present.

I would be willing to "purchase" the rack but it located in Texas......if there is a way to get it transported here to Louisville for disassembly and design.

I'm new to MUD but I have fabbed up a few racks in the past. I recently purchased a FJ60 and will be building a full length rack. I come from a Rover background and always liked the Hannable racks but found them to be way to muck$$$.

If someone could spell out to me clearly what features of this rack make it so desirable I could replicate it.
Now for the bad part.. I'm in VA so you guys on the west coast are gonna hate the shipping costs.

As stated above detailed pic's and specs would be great. i can bend anything from 3/4" square to 1 3/4" round. Tell me what you guys need.
When I get to my home computer I can post some examples of some work.

Custom roof racks

We build custom roof racks for all types of cruisers.
Building one similar INTI rack would not be a problem.
Here is one full size rack we build for cruisers.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Build a sample and get us all a price and turn around time. Many have claimed they can replicate it but no one has yet.

being new to Mud this is the first time I have seen mention of this brand rack. I was hope someone would post some detailed pictures. I have seen many rovers with the Safety Devices Racks along with Brownchurch and ARB.
Here is the last one I built 1.5 tubing. Not the lightest thing( I could pick it up, 100-125#) but strong.Around here we use them as much as roof sliders as for carring equipment.LOL I used to carry 20' tubing home on it. sometimes 3 or 4 lengths. I know the gutters are the weaker point and I planned on changing things a bit on the next one.
I also have access to equipment to weld aluminum now.

I'll see if I can dig up some more photos since I sold that truck a few years ago.
Pricing will depend on cost of material at the time. Currently steel and aluminum are down a bit but that could change. Paint is another big expense. If someone wanted to order a raw rack and paint themselves that would cut costs alot. And finally shipping. Items this size generally need to go truck freight. I will research a bit more and see if I can come up with a ball park figure.

Again pic would be nice.

A couple of my other projects. I like to weld!

Actually, that is not entirely true. Nobody has replicated them for commercial purposes, but Jeff Bryant in Susanville, CA has an “Icky” rack that is essentially a copy of my INTI rack. Back when I lived in Arizona, he came over to my place and spent a day taking precise measurements and a few dozen pictures, then went back home and made an excellent copy of it. He didn’t have the tools to fabricate the gutter mounts, so he used off the shelf parts, but the rest of the rack was a faithful reproduction. He’d intended to make several copies to sell, but in the end the cost of material and the amount of time/labor that went into the fabrication made the venture too pricey. Some of the biggest challenges he had were with the aluminum extrusions.

I’ve had a couple of fabricators look over the INTI and commented that some of the cost challenges would be:

1.Fabricating the unique gutter mounts
2.Sourcing the correct aluminum extrusions for the frame and floor
3.Sourcing the right dies/bender to make the very tight bends on the sides of the super-structure
4.Shipping the rack as a complete unit

Do I think it’s doable? Absolutely, the question is, is it doable as a profitable venture. If you keep in mind that the price for the imported INTIs hovers over the $1K barrier and that’s includes the dirt-cheap Venezuelan labor and cheaper parts, can you take out the cost of shipping/importation, insert the much higher cost of US labor/parts and still come out with a profitable product?
