My 99 cruiser has suddenly developed an intermittant problem. I'll be driving along and I'll apply the brake to slow down at an intersection or make a turn, and occasionally, I will push the accelerator and the truck will only creep along at around 12-1400 rpm (5mph or so) and the check engine light comes on. Its as if the fuel pump has stopped working beyind providing enough to idle.
If I turn the truck off and start it again, it runs fine, and eventually a day or so later the check engine light resets. however, today it happened about 3 times, and I'm pretty concerned. When I'm sitting in neutral, I hit the gas pedal and nothing happens when I push it unless I totally jam it to the floor. But then I restart and everything is fine but the engine light. Before i take it in, I thought i would see if there were some ideas out there.
i was thinking clogged fuel filter, but seems unlikely. Seems to be more of an electrical or computer issue since it resets. Resister on fuel pump, or bad fuel pump? oxygen sensor? the truck probably knows exactly whats going on if I could hook it up to a computer.
I have about 168k on it, and have never had a major problem except replacing the starter ( not a fun job).
Appreciate any input.
