Guys,

I'm trying to undo some of the eyesores inside the 100 series.

Most notably, my faux wood trim is de-laminating. I tried to remove the tranny shifter surrounds, but i peeled some of the paint. I tried to paint, but plastic is still ugly. Is there a black wood or aluminum trim that looks nice?

Also, is there a way to polish the clear plastic that shows P-R-D-1-2 shift gate. Mine is terribly scratched.

Finally, I need a really deep clean of the carpets. Prior owner tried some sort of dry clean which resulted in white clump on the fibers. The clumps are made up of microscopic powder. Looks almost like paint overspray..

Any suggestions??

Mark

I've had good luck with Meguire's plastic polishes for clear plastic.

Can you spray paint the old wood trim a nice flat black and reinstall ?

or sand the plastic trim smooth and paint black?

I tried this, but cut into the plastic a little. The paint seems to show all of the imperfections. I might try some textured paint.

The black trim appears to be painted from the factory. The tan plastic is not painted. The tranny shifter surround is the worst area.

The black trim is black plastic, or am I missing something? Plastic putty, sandpaper and a coat of black paint should fix it all.

I personally would try Black RIT dye because spray paint chips easily....

you can always paint it if the dye doesn't work. I use to dye all my lacrosse heads which were made of plastic. The trick was to use hot boiled water, place the plastic in a bin of hot water and empty the dye packet, let it sit for 20-30 and it should hold up better then paint.... just an idea.

I removed my center console wood and sprayed it a glossy black. I'm not sure I have any pictures of it. But it looks good. It just scratches easily as its spray paint. I'll redo it in a few weeks when it gets warmer out.

make sure to use an enamel clear coat after spray painting. Helps prevent paint chipin'

The best stuff to you use before spray painting is BULLDOG Adhesion Promoter.... this stuff is the shiz-nit!

wareagle, post up some pics, maybe that would help.

A quick tip, easiest way to get wood trim off is to close up the vehicle and run the heater on high for 20 minutes (even better if it's summer). The trim AND glue will come right off.

rhino-line sucks....

2000UZJ, i wouldn't ruin your macbook doing that, it's made of that material for optimal performance.... haha, i would know.

I powdercoated my macbookpro and it made the internals overheat and my MBP fried. Mac said "without a doubt, you voided your warranty".

It was a good excuse to upgrade to the newest MBP

Sure.... if it can go both ways :)

I have mine lower rockers line-x sprayed white. I'm going back to do the trim as soon as I get f&r bumpers because I plan on doing all of it..... wanted to do the whole truck line-x black quoted me $1500 but I was talked out of it.

Here's the pic. Actually, I removed the trim during the summer, but it did not come off easily. The vent and cupholder were not damaged. The tranny surround, however, is painted polymer. The paint peeled off when I used some goo off. I repainted, but the paint showed a lot of surface imperfections.
