must say I admire your work mate, I think you are onto something, would you be willing to do custom designs say if I sent you a logo, or is there too much involved in making the prototypes to be able to do "one off's"?
I spoke at length with Brad this evening and I'll be shipping out two grilles to him tomorrow so he can continue quality R&D.
I think he is making a significant investment personally in terms of time (away from work and family) and money to get these correct and very nice.
I hope the collective 80 series community will support him in his endeavors: read: don't be cheap folks. Realize the time, effort, energy and resources it takes to bring an idea from the brain out into the world.
They might not be the cheapest "bolt ons" to your trucks but it seems his passion is for designing something really nice ... And I got this from speaking with him tonight which is why I will support this project materially.
Regards
Onur
Here's a black and chrome finish similar to what you are talking about. I will do my best to track down some actual metallic looking filament for a somewhat affordable price. Usually in the 3-D printing world as soon as someone comes out with something new like a new type or color filament then all the other manufacturers release their version within a month or two for WAY less. Hopefully that will happen with the metallic looking filament.
I am interested in exactly this (old-style font T O Y O T A emblem- referenced in your post below) but I need it to replace my LEXUS emblem- can you do this? Would be interested in a similar emblem for the rear. Thanks for the awesome idea!![]()
I also wanted to add a big update to this. I am pretty confident my printer is finally repaired. I successfully ran a few prints for work yesterday without issue and plan to try the TEQ emblem again this evening. I also seem to have enough interest with this to go ahead and order the larger and upgraded 3-D printer. It will be 3-4 weeks before I have it in my hands and have had the time to build it, dial it in, and run a bunch of set up prints. I will start a new thread once I am ready to start printing off orders. I appreciate all the interest and feedback guys. I will continue to add pics on this thread as I wrap up designs and get them printed.
...I was also curious if by some badass chance you could underlay the 80 in with the 40 series TOYOTA emblem...
The 80 underlay with the 40 style toyota emblem sounds awesome.
Speaking of custom emblems... Can you make some with a flat back that would be attached to a fender or rear gate with some 3M automotive adhesive?
How about something for the v8 swapped crowd? This would be a smaller market... for now
I would love one of these, but with 5.3 LITRE on the bottom instead of 6.0 LITRE. There are a few members who would "need" the 6.0 LITRE version though.![]()
So lots of you have mentioned making a rear emblem. So I went out this evening and worked in the garage trying to get the rear emblem off. I removed the rear door handle and cover from the inside expecting to see small screws that hold the emblem on, but I found nothing. I even removed the door lock thinking maybe there would be holes behind there but still nothing. I still don't know how that rear emblem is attached. It almost seems like it's just glued on. Does anyone out there know? I stuck a flat head screw driver behind it and started prying and it heard some tearing and cracking noises but decided to stop before the emblem just shattered on me. It's kind of hard to get dimensions off of it when it's in pieces.
