Onur, you totally rock for supporting this project!

Thanks!

must say I admire your work mate, I think you are onto something, would you be willing to do custom designs say if I sent you a logo, or is there too much involved in making the prototypes to be able to do "one off's"?

I would definitely be interested in "one offs". Once a basic template is established that fits onto the grille perfectly then changing out lettering or a design isn't too difficult.

Minus the trail team.

I spoke at length with Brad this evening and I'll be shipping out two grilles to him tomorrow so he can continue quality R&D.

I think he is making a significant investment personally in terms of time (away from work and family) and money to get these correct and very nice.

I hope the collective 80 series community will support him in his endeavors: read: don't be cheap folks. Realize the time, effort, energy and resources it takes to bring an idea from the brain out into the world.

They might not be the cheapest "bolt ons" to your trucks but it seems his passion is for designing something really nice ... And I got this from speaking with him tonight which is why I will support this project materially.

Regards
Onur

Wow; thanks Onur. I appreciate the kind words. I know many of you have been waiting on pics of the finished red and silver TEQ emblem. Unfortunately your gonna have to wait a little longer. I have attempted to print it 5 times and have failed every time. One fully printed but the outer surface was not bonded and looked horrible. I have spent hours on the phone with the makerware software guys and I think we narrowed it down to a glitch in the g-code. I am currently working on a repair so I can get this final prototype printed and photographed. all of my free time has been dedicated to the print/printer repair so I haven't had a chance to get to the rear emblem design. No worries, I have not forgotten those requests. I will be working on it as soon as I have a functioning healthy printer.

Shameless bump. I wanted to show off my new grill. Thanks again.

I am interested in exactly this (old-style font T O Y O T A emblem- referenced in your post below) but I need it to replace my LEXUS emblem- can you do this? Would be interested in a similar emblem for the rear. Thanks for the awesome idea!

Here's a black and chrome finish similar to what you are talking about. I will do my best to track down some actual metallic looking filament for a somewhat affordable price. Usually in the 3-D printing world as soon as someone comes out with something new like a new type or color filament then all the other manufacturers release their version within a month or two for WAY less. Hopefully that will happen with the metallic looking filament.

the one in the pic and the one on my rig are both on a Lexus. It has been the yota grille I have struggled with. I was having a hard time finidng a donor grille easily to test fit on until Beno stepped in. I should have that in the mail soon. I do have a couple of the FJ40 font emblems for a Lexus from my original batch left over. If you want one just shoot me a PM and we can get that set up.

I also wanted to add a big update to this. I am pretty confident my printer is finally repaired. I successfully ran a few prints for work yesterday without issue and plan to try the TEQ emblem again this evening. I also seem to have enough interest with this to go ahead and order the larger and upgraded 3-D printer. It will be 3-4 weeks before I have it in my hands and have had the time to build it, dial it in, and run a bunch of set up prints. I will start a new thread once I am ready to start printing off orders. I appreciate all the interest and feedback guys. I will continue to add pics on this thread as I wrap up designs and get them printed.

Your product looks great, I would be down for either a white 80 or the larger emblem 40 series print TOYOTA.
I was also curious if by some badass chance you could underlay the 80 in with the 40 series TOYOTA emblem.
Think if the lines don't clash to hard it would look SICK! And also chew up some of the blah flat plastic where the sombrero was!

Wohoo! Great stuff here! :clap::clap::clap:

I agree. This could be a very cool idea.

I really like what you're offering here!

Speaking of custom emblems... Can you make some with a flat back that would be attached to a fender or rear gate with some 3M automotive adhesive?

How about something for the v8 swapped crowd? This would be a smaller market... for now ;)

I would love one of these, but with 5.3 LITRE on the bottom instead of 6.0 LITRE. There are a few members who would "need" the 6.0 LITRE version though. ;)

The 80 underlay with the 40 style toyota emblem sounds awesome.

Here's one for the V8 guys :flipoff2:

I have been thinking about the same thing. I thought about doing a pattern of small 80's embossed onto the black surface behind the letters. At first glance it would just look like a diamond plate style pattern but up close it would be made up of a bunch of little 80's. Once I get the rear emblem wrapped up I will work on it and see what I can come up with.

I would be interested in the v8 emblem down the road but right now I'm getting flooded with ideas for the front and rear LX/Yota emblems. Once I get those designs all wrapped up printed and shipped out then I will ship my focus over to other ideas. In regards to flat black. I can by more opaque black and more shinny black which can give it a more a less "flat" finish. I you want totally flat then their isn't any reason why you couldn't toss on a coat of flat black spray paint onto the emblem.

So lots of you have mentioned making a rear emblem. So I went out this evening and worked in the garage trying to get the rear emblem off. I removed the rear door handle and cover from the inside expecting to see small screws that hold the emblem on, but I found nothing. I even removed the door lock thinking maybe there would be holes behind there but still nothing. I still don't know how that rear emblem is attached. It almost seems like it's just glued on. Does anyone out there know? I stuck a flat head screw driver behind it and started prying and it heard some tearing and cracking noises but decided to stop before the emblem just shattered on me. It's kind of hard to get dimensions off of it when it's in pieces.

By "the rear" emblem are you refer I g to the long one on the upper back door?
If so I could be interested.
