Sending messages back and forth with Wes about substitute gaskets. Apparently the OEM gaskets aren't available separately, but you can still get them in the SOR head kit. Wes ordered a set for the Chevy 235 which was close. I ordered those and a set for the old GMC 6 to see what those were like.

Anyhow, here they are. The Fel-Pro MS9193B is for the Chevy 235 and the MS8706B is for the GMC 228,236,248,270 1939-62. This is back when Chevy and GMC actually had differences other than trim. ;)

The GMC MS8706 gaskets were a better match, mainly because they were longer:

I trimmed them with a pair of Wiss snips (easy) and they were ready to go. The only trimming necessary is inside the ports. Make sure they fit over the intake manifold rings (you do have your rings, don't you?) so you have no surprises. I use copper permatex, but the gasket is compressible so you don't have to if you don't like it.

Easy, the hard part is usually the exhaust pipe, but that was all fresh new stuff. I didn't do the head or the intake gasket when I had the motor out, so you know what's next.
