Installing a ss85hf Ssafari Snorkle!!??

Hi!
Im installing a ss85HF on a friends 2004 100 series (1HD-FTE engine). Its the previous model of the Safari Snorkel (the short one).

Anyways, are they kidding with the template, or am i just plain stupid? Ive been wrenching cruisers for the last 15 years, so i hope its not me.. How on earth is that template supposed to be placed on the fender?

I hope someone can help me out.

what exactly are you having trouble with? template isn't laying properly on the fender?

Not laying properly on fender. There is just no way i fits. It makes no sense. There is a hole there that seems to be for the antenna or the turn signal, but it doesnt ad up no matter how i align it. No curves or anything aligns.

Are you referring to the trapazoidal looking hole? If so, i'm pretty sure that's for a side marker that may or may not be on the truck you're working on depending on where it is from. If you've been wrenching on cruisers for a while, my guess is that it isn't you... It's the template probably. Does the template lay up against the backside of the snorkel? I know that when i did my snorkel, (not safari mind you), i kept going back and forth from fender to backside of snorkel to align/ adjust the template.

I would assume that you have turned the template 180 degrees from the pic you posted up there? Cuz it looks like in that orientation, the template is upside down. I think....

You are probably right about the "Norwegian/European version". I guess the turn signals and antenna is altered in some markets. Ill play around with it for a while and se if it ads up. Thanks!

I believe that you have to move the side marker/running light down by cutting a new hole. So that might be your problem?

in that picture, bottom is the top, right curved part goes along the fender/door gap. And echelon is correct, you reposition the fender light lower down, the template has the cutout to show you where to put your new hole.

Do you have the instructions? Its been a spell since I've installed an SS85HF but they should show a clear diagram as to how the template attaches to the fender. Echoing the others, the template is arranged so the part number is read as you look at the fender, so its basically upside down in your pic.

If you don't have the markers disregard that hole. If you do you will have to remove it and reinstall below.

Well i figured it out. It was me that was stupid, atleast semi stupid But i must say, they could make that template a whole lot better. Now i just have to order a new antenna, cause of course this car has the power antenna. And this snorkel and the power antenna does not agree..

I dont know if they are still in stock. I think maybe this one was one a local dealer had laying around. Ill post some pics tomorrow.

Are SS85HFs still available?

To my knowledge they are not, at least not through ARBUSA, their US distributor. The new replacement allows retention of the power antenna and some prefer the look, that said you do have to slightly modify it around the power antenna which is a relatively easy fix.
