Nice! You must have smaller knees or you are not clumsy like me as I'd be smacking the radio each time I got in ;).

Any reason why you chose the 8900 over the 8800?

Yes, I was about to pay for the 8800 and one of the employees at HRO said that someone had returned a 8900 and he could give it to me for a better price than the 8800. I got it for $354.

Always the best way to decide...

I've been trying to decide between the 8900 and the 8800. But that is a very nice install.

I have the 8800 and when I got my friend into HAM after I got the bug I convinced him to get the 8900. BUT, as it turns out I like the operation of the 8800 better. The only downside to the 8800 compared to the 8900 as I see it is not being able to get on the 50 MHZ band, but where I live no one is on that band that I can reach with the mobile antenna anyway.

What I specifically like better about the 8800 is that both sides of the radio can scan the entire range of freqs that the radio covers. The 8900 has the left and right side set up so that some freqs have to be accessed from the left side of the radio and some have to be accessed from the right. Not really a big deal, but it bothers me enough that don't want the 8900.

Plus eventually I'll be getting the 897 for the truck so that will cover 50MHZ and below and the 8800 will stay on 2M.

A few more pictures

If I install another one or get to the bottom of my "list" () for the SpressoWagon and redo my install I'm mounting the face unit in the headliner just behind the front dome/sun roof pod of controls. And I'll use a small, 'housing-less' speaker tuned for voice Hz in the headliner in the little spot just to the left of the DS sun visor.

Sorry for the hijack Roger!

Roger - any chance you can get the pictures to appear in this thread? Thanks.

Also here is the thread of the 8900 I put in my friends Gen 4 4Runner. Pretty slick I think. He has the mic on a vent clip in the right so that is cleaned up now.
