Can’t find much searching the threads here….polling the room: do you use BG 44k or equivalent as a fuel additive? If so, how often?

My mechanic is recommending it every 6 months of 7500 miles, says it will help save the converters in the long run.

There are all sorts of fuel system cleaners out there. They are all the best because of their brand and logo. Most are 90% distillate and 10% snake oil. They can help clean injectors, but will not be as thorough as a proper removal and cleaning.

I've never cleaned my injectors on my 2013 LX (212,000 km). I doubt that BG44k will hurt anything.

I've run Amsoil and the Chevron techron fuel additive through mine a few times. I can't say it's done anything GREAT, but sure has strong proponents in the "for" camp of the argument. So long as it's not every tank of fuel, you'd be fine IMO. The better way for keeping your injectors clean would be using top tier (or above) fuel. Finally, the "motor oil geek" on YT has an entire video regarding the merits of (top tier and above) high octane fuel use and the protection of your rings/cylinders from its consumption. HTH

I seek out top tier fuel. Costco adds a lot of polyether amine detergent (pea) by the local staff.

Bg44k is a great product but expensive. It has some of the highest percentage of pea. I use redline s-1 when on sale at Amazon. I use it about every 15k.

Do I notice a difference? Not really.

Most top tier detergents are identical: FYI.

I throw a bottle of Chevron Techron additive into my fuel tank every so often because it makes me FEEL better.

If adding BG44K makes you FEEL better... go for it.

I have used Royal Purple Fuel system cleaner and stabilizer as well as their Atomizer Fuel Injector cleaner.
I switched to Red Line last year https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQB6O0A and use it on occasion when I am towing up larger mountain passes. A little less PEA than BG but was a lot less price wise (about 40% less).
I generally run Costo Regular fuel but always fill with premium when towing.
This thread reminds me that I need to order more for my trip to Banff next week.

Same here. I run Techron or Amsoil FI cleaner right before an oil change. It is more of a maintenance item than a fix, so ideally you shouldn't feel a difference if your maintenance is up to date. It does clean built up carbon, there are a lot of tests that prove it does a decent job at it.
