With all the talk of head gaskets (and my recent self-jinxing), I noticed the TSB from Jan 02 about the "1997 LC Head Gasket" off the Edmonds website:

Component Description:
2. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE NHTSA Number: 351518
Bulletin Number: TC02001
Bulletin Date: JAN 2002

Vehicle: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser
Summary:
LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN X01 INVOLVING REPLACEMENT OF THE 5VZ-FE V6 ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET. *TT

I'll make the flying leap that since last I checked I have a 1FZ-FE motor, this won't apply toward my free head gasket. Those Tundra/4Runner guys are lucky. ::)

You are correct. That campaign pertains to early 5VZE 3.4 V6 engines in Tacomas, 4Runners and T100s. You still need to rely on your own billfold.
