Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I have been lurking for a while and finally decided to register. I am looking for a 2000 - 2001 model year cruiser without navi and I was wondering what a good price might be. I would prefer something with less than 75,000 miles if possible. I have been looking at Autotrader and the price hovers around $30,000 - $35,000. I live in MS so I would have no trouble driving as far as Atlanta or Dallas to pick one up if the price is right. I haven't gotten into the offroad stuff yet so this is going to be a grocery getter for the family for right now. Who knows what the future may bring though. :)

welcome aboard !

fwiw, I'm actually pretty impressed with the OEM Nav system. Can't beat it with run of the mill aftermarket stuff for street nav I think. If you can get it at little markup would be good to do perhaps. One downside is that on the 03 at least, the touchscreen controls a bunch of other stuff, so if it conks out that would increase the need for OEM repair, which could get very expensive.

30-35K seem a bit high price wise for a 2000-1. I picked up my 2000 w/76K last year for 25K.

they are a SUPER nice rig and I know you will be happy with your choice.

I forgot to post that I will be getting rid of a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee for this vehicle. I looked at the Lexus since my wife drives a GS300 but I like to keep a vehicle for 10 years or until they stop running so I decided against buying a truck that has so much electronic stuff that will eventually wear out. The reason I don't want the navi is that I probably would never use it and I want to get an aftermarket unit that will play my MP3 collection. The factory navi is tied to too much other stuf to cleanly remove it.

If you want to keep a vehicle for 10 years then the only way to go is Toyota. The only reason my wife gets a Jeep is because we trade it for a new one every 4 years when it wears out.

RedJeeper,

Welcome to the board......

My wife had a new 98 LC, and we really liked it. However, the only thing I didn't like was that it was pretty lacking in the "extra" creature comfort area (the LC is plenty plush, but it had no memory seat, no rear air, no power tilt/tele, etc.) This past summer, I bought a 99 LX, and I really like having the additional items - even the interior looks better with the wood trim. This is in no way a slight to the Land Cruisers (after all, the LX IS a Land Cruiser with extras) Although I'm hopeful I won't have any trouble with the hydraulic suspension components, I figure if they go bad, I can always convert to a straight Land Cruiser-style suspension (the LX sill has torsion bars/springs, it just has electro-hydraulic dampers).............plus, Slee sure wheels the heck out of his without problems so far..........might be worth ti reconsider the LX

By the way, I'm in Jackson, MS. Where are you?

Only 10 yrs? My 4runner is going on it's 19th year, still runs great and is 100% reliable! I gotta say, though, having manual everything (windows, tranny, climate controls, seats, etc.) reduces what can go wrong. Electronics have been very reliable (only repair I've made was to the rear window defroster, as the window raising and lowering caused the ground wire to fall off).

it is indeed true that serious electronic failure would be very costly to fix in a later model LC or LX.
But it is also likely fair to say that after the initial burn-in period, electronics are probably much more durable than mechanical systems.

Well guys, the transmission in Big Red went south this morning and I guess I will have to get something a little sooner than anticipated. BNP, I live in Flowood right by the new malls that went up. Maybe you can let me take a look at your LX and change my mind. :)

Funny. I also live in Flowood next to the new malls that went up (matter of fact, Dogwood Festival Market was one of our first big projects in this area)...............

Send me a note at dnpcorp@bellsouth.net Be happy to tell you what I know/my experience with these trucks.............Oh yeah, be sure to reference a Land Cruiser in your subject line. That way, my spam blocker won't kick it out

The way I look at it, althought the LX has a nicer interior, if the AHC fails, one has to either spend $$$ on OEM shocks or get third party shocks, replace the t-bars, and springs and do without AHC. Also, you can't get the ARB winchbar, just the sahara bar, if that's a factor. The other drawback is, if you need to take it to the dealer for some reason (replace the t-belt, etc.), many toyota dealers won't work on Lexus cars, so you'll pay a premium in the maintenance costs. OTOH, toyota probably figures LC100 owners have big $$ to spend vs. corolla owners, so they probably still charge an arm and a leg for maintenance. You could also take it to an indep. toyota dealer to bypass these problems.

Jim,

You're exactly right on the issues you brought up. When I was looking at the Lexus, the only mitigating factor for me was that the LX doesn't have a "true" electro-hydraulic system like I'm told the Land Rovers do (i.e., the LX still has springs, but with EH dampers vs. the Land Rover suspension, itself, is EH) My confidence in Japanese engineering, quality, and reliability "allowed" me to feel OK about moving ahead with the LX. Granted, if there IS a failure in the system, I've got some serious issues to consider. On the other hand, the suspension hydraulics are made by KYB, and the KYB's I've had on past motorcycles and cars have operated flawlessly.......just gotta pray that, if the Slee folks have wheeled theirs as hard as they have without failure, hopefully my daily driver will last a good long time.....(personal taste, but I prefer the Sahara Bar anyway)......Hope this helps as others make their decisions on LX vs. LC

I live in Tuscaloosa , AL. and I'm debating on selling my 2000 L.C. It just turned 100,000 and its still perfect. I really enjoy it, but I really need a truck. If you guys hear of anyone in the market, let me know. Its white with tan interior. Has a black brushguard and I just put 285/75/16 Goodyear MTR's on it 200 miles ago. I do still have the michelins that only have about 30,000 miles on them. I'll probably ask around $21,900 for it. Its perfect.

Unfortunately I'm responding to this thread that was awhile ago, but

I purchased a 2000 LC from a dealer last year(04) in Nov, it 61000mi and I paid $25000,
Certified Limited War..) they gave me the 100Kmi limited power train warranty which I thought was pretty comprehensive somewhat, roadside. They tried to sell me additional coverage for $1500 then he came down to $1300 the he came down to $1000. But I had already planned on what I was willing to spend. The vehicle is very clean inside and out
and I'm a proud 2000, LC 100 series owner.

You can have your 4-Runner - Two small
You can have your seqouia(did I spell that right, who cares) - cheap materials inside
You can have your Ameri SUVs - Not A LC 'baby'

Shawn, thats a little more mileage than I want. I am looking for a 2000 model with under 75,000. Thanks anyway. I have seen a few going for around 28,000, is this a good deal?

Not sure how good that is. I recently picked up a 99 in great shape with 33,000 miles for $24,000 in New Jersey. The truck was not certified, though. From all the messages on the board recently, it really seems like prices are regional--west coast being higher than east coast.

I gotta say the NAV is one of the best options I've ever had. Certainly has eliminated the fights between my wife and I about directions. Worth every penny of the $3000.

For reference, I just bought a 2001 with all options including Nav for $25500.00 with 68K miles. I also looked at a 2000 model with 54K miles at a dealer in Cinc. OH that wanted $25K for it. $28K seems a little high, at least in the Louisville/Cincinnati area. Is that asking price or what they are actually selling for?

Autotrader usually has 2000 models listed for around $28,000 in the Mississippi area. I have been looking at ebay and they are around $25,000 to $28,000. I am cautious about buying one from the northern states because of the underbody rust that is caused by road salt. So I would like to buy from Texas or Louisianna or another southern state. I plan on buying a plane ticket and driving it home. These are asking prices of course. I plan on paying cash so I'm sure they wouldn't let me leave a dealership for a few thousand dollars. Like the old saying, "better to have one in hand than two in the bush". Keep the replies coming guys.
