If all goes according to plan, tomorrow I will be the proud owner of a 2000 cruiser in River Rock over Oak. Price = $23K ; mileage = 69,000. Time to start planning a 100 series wish list......off to Christo's site :D

Good luck. Hope your transaction goes smoothly. We all know how exciting that is (as well as that Slee wish list).

Thanks. It's gonna be a four hour drive to get there but the price makes it worth the trip. The dealer sent me pics (see below) but you never know til you see it in the "flesh" and drive it.... I'm also making a list of parts /labor prices for negotiating just in case there are issues with brakes etc.

Great choice. I'm biased though. Look at the color? :D

New 100 owner

It's all mine. 2000 River Rock Cruiser
Drove it home yesterday. Mr. Shotts, I now know why they called your rig a "rock limo" -this thing is solid and quiet! It is also DEFINITELY bigger than the 80. I wasn't sure it fit in my garage! It is in very good shape but does need a good leather cleaning as they had a child (could see a couple dimples in the back seat from the child seat). Is leatherique the best for this? I have Xymol but need something a little stronger. As I was test driving it the check engine light came on. (good timing) The service area at the dealer was closed on Saturday so we couldn't pull the code but they agreed to repair the condition causing the CEL. I will take it to the local Autozone and have them pull the code.

Noticed something funny on the drive home. My wife was driving our Sienna mini van following me on the highway. We were using two-way radios to communicate. There is a 5MPH discrepancy between the two vehicles' speedometers. I'm going to have to find the nearest measured mile to see if it is one or both vehicles that is off calibration.

Tires are relatively new Dunlop Grantreks. I'll be replacing these with 295-75 AT KO's. Do local tire shops give you any "trade in allowance" for low mileage tires anymore? Maybe I'm showing my age but I remember when... If not, I'll be calling Tirerack. Come Summer time, if cash is available, 2" OME lift /T-bars/ diff drop will be installed.

congrats!
a bit daring to get it with a CEL on. Will you have to go back there to get it fixed? Better be sure they do it right and don't use shortcuts...
One of the 100 we looked at also had GrandTreks on. New. The wrong size. Don't remember what kind exactly, but a bit of research showed them discontinued (so probably a cheap "fix" for the dealer), and poorly rated.

Borrow a GPS to check the speed. On my 80 with stock tires, it's within 0.2 mph!

Congraulations! I had the same first impression...what a solid vehicile. I wanted a well engineered "tank" that would haul five adults and that's what I got.

I would be back at the dealership Monday morning to resolve the "check engine light" even if I had to take a day's vacation. It is probably something small but the sooner it is resolved, the better for you. Having been taught the ways of the world by the school of hard knocks, it's doubtful the check engine light just came on for the first time while on your test drive. My hunch is the dealer cleared the code in hopes it wouldn't reappear until the sale was final.

OK, I didn't want to come on too strong, but yes, caution is in order!
On the not so remote chance that they tried to pull a fast one on you, I'd move very quickly if the CEL is bad news. And try to have somebody confirm in writing or recorded that they will fix it! Otherwise you may get the run around if the dealer is shaky. Or take advantage of any "cool off" period available in your state!

Then OTOH, it may indeed be a simple good faith incident...

Better be careful than sorry, though!

Thanks for the words of caution guys. What I have is a written agreement from the dealer (Middletown Toyota) stating they will pay for the repair of the condition causing the CEL at my local Toyota dealer. I am going to have the code pulled at Autozone first just so I have a 2nd opinion on the problem. I'm calling my local dealer on Monday to set up an appointment in the shop. As far as the "odds" the CEL came on for the 1st time just as I test driving it, I would bet it had been reset one or more times in the hope it would be out during the purchase period of a sale. As long as they honor their agreement I'm not worried as the truck looks great and the price was fantastic. I'm guessing it O2 sensors but we shall see. Anyone know of CEL indicating more significant problems in the 100 series?

Tire size on truck is 275/70-16. That is stock size as far as I know.

If they're allowing you to take it to another dealer- which I'm suprised about- I wouldn't mess with Autozone. Go strait to the dealer. Let them find anything and everthing that's wrong with it, even if it requires a $150.00 "pre-purchase inspection." If you go in there and say," the guys at Autozone said it's this", and that's what they fix, you may have problems getting something else repaired as well.

My brother in law just bought a 98 from Park Lexus in Dallas that had had a CEL on as well, they said they fixed it but he didn't know what the problem was.

Congratulations on your purchase, BTW. Let us know how it goes.

The agreement is only to fix the CEL condition, nothing else. I was just thinking I'd have the code pulled somewhere else just to see what it is BEFORE I go to the dealer. I wouldn't bring this to the dealers attention unless they said the code was something different from what autozone finds when they call me with the diagnosis. I'll keep you posted.

I just washed the 80 and will be prepping it for sale. Kinda sad.... It's been a great truck for us. My brother in law thinks I'm nuts and should 've just kept the 80 :D Well I can't keep both and I've made my choice. My driveway looks kind of funny right now with the smallest Toyota (89 MR2) and the biggest Toyota and two Toyotas in between.

Will the Autozone reader reset the code? I don't know. What if it doesn't come back on for a while?

What kind of code reader is required to get codes frOm the the LC100 ?

OBD II, I think.

SWEET! ANOTHER LUCKY MAN....AND OWNER OF 2 CRUISERS! Yes, I thought 4-wheeler Magazine's title of ROCK LIMO was spot-on.

I've received $20-45 per tire trade from Discount/American Tire Company on almost every buy. I go in with some tread left and even though they're trashed from 4-wheeling I get some slack. GO FOR IT! Nice tire. Here's a AT KO in action:

:D :D CONGRATS! :D :D

if you have a written agreement, that's not too bad.
Just to be sure, see if your dealer will bill the other guy directly rather than you paying and being reimbursed (hopefully)

My 2000 Cruiser is still for sale. I put it in the local paper Wednesday. I did take my 285's off and put the Michelins back on. Just to remind you, 2000 cruiser-white-tan int.-black brushguard- just turned 100,000. I will take as low as $21,000. Oh yeah, and it has husky liners front and rear.

ooops, actually better not to tell them upfront or they may contact the other guy first and do less than necessary...
