I read a thread a while back about using either a ford or Chevy SUV tank that fit well between the frame rails on an fj45 long box. If anyone is familiar with this thread please send me a link, I already searched for quite a while with no luck. Thanks in advance, Larry Brewster

Not familiar with the thread you’re searching for, however please share if you’re trying to keep the space for the spare tire , or how much extra fuel you wish to carry. I also searched in bed options and under bed in-frame options where are usually 22 gallon FJ40 tanks are offered, until deciding to use the space just behind rear axle with a big old Confer tank
pleased with result, since I carry a large cooler and about 700lbs of gear when wheeling
Mark Algazy uses a larger lengthwise tank on his 64 pickup, though he does not install them

Fabricate one from scratch. If you don't have the metal skills, take your design to a competent sheet metal shop and have them brake and weld it for you.

I have an aussie extended range tank with the filler through the (not stock) bedside. I welded a 40 series filler neck assembly in so it doesn't look too out of place. Would have been pretty easy just to have the filler neck through the floor of the bed too.

I use the ConFerr style 22 gallon tank, with tabs I welded on to match the tire carrier hinge bracket location and the shock tube. Used an early 40 series filler neck that required cutting both the side of the bed and an arc out of the floor just behind the passenger wheel well arch.

I do not have the lengthwise tank vintij described; I sold it to someone on the forum many years ago. I have lengthwise saddle tanks on my K5 blazer. But that's another story.
