Calipers

:bounce:Good thread - I was just sitting down to start a search on doing rear disc's.

One question - if anyone knows.

I have a 1989 Chevy 3/4 T suburban 4x4, 16" wheels that I'm going to be parting out to uses some things on my 66 FJ40 w/76 axles front and rear.

Any one know if I can use the calipers from the front of the Suburban as rear calipers with Posers mounts??? Are they too big to fit ?????

Thanks -

LBM:idea:

Thanks - not planning on using the 16" rims as they are 8 lug - just threw that in to maybe show size?? and probably confuse things!! I was hoping to be able to use the sub 3/4T calipers since they are there. I was wondering if they would match the holes on the bracket. But as I think about it the sub's slide onto a bracket then bolt on - so I'm guessing you are correct.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the Burb's calipers will be too big if they are type I'm thinking . Those wheels, if you plan to use them may not work as well due to the size of the center hole difference .

Showing my ignorance here. Why can you not use these longer wheel studs on the front of a 77/78 factory disk setup? It has been a while since I broke down the front end.

Great Thread!!!! Excellent help! This is one of the first things I am planning on doing to mine and this really brought down my stress level on the braking system..But really who needs to stop anyway? ;-)

Well, I'd rather be stopped and wishing I could go, than going and wishing I could stop...

My understanding is the longer studs will fit on the front as well. The knurled part of the head that's pressed in is the same size for the front or back axle. :meh:
