Does anybody know the challenges of importing a hzj76v to Australia? do you know a good reliable company and would it be hard to get insured i have roughly estimated the cost of importing it on http://www.j-spec.com.au the only reason i ask is because i have never seen one in australia so i asume that there is some sort of law preventing this cruiser from coming to australia also would it be worth going to japan and buying one or just going with a trusted importing company (would be like $3000 to go to japan)

i do know the importing rules its just i cant find any info about these cruisers because its all in japanese

I would be very interested in how its works for a hzj 74 ZX as well.

Brave auto international
Google them

Mark the owner lives in Australia and knows all the ins and outs

Give him a shout

Is it Australia Toyota is selling VDJ 78??:hhmm::hhmm:
Why need the troubles of importing from Japan??:confused:
Unless you want the narrow front clip.

Probably about $20g cheaper to buy a hzj 76 than a newish 78

DON'T use Edward Lee's Auto on Parramatta Rd in Concord, Sydney, NSW. His son Phil Lee isn't worth dealing with.

He knew imports required new seatbelts fitted before registering. He got the car dodgily registered in NSW and neglected to inform me of this little fact until I drove across the border the 1000km home to QLD. Then when I went in for the QLD roadworthy to register the car in my name I discovered this. In a later phone call he admitted he knew of this but 'was trying to run a business'. IDGAF.

Belts - $250
Mod plate - $250
Total - $500

The car needed suspension bushes, all TRE's and rotors skimmed/pads to pass a roadworthy inspection. He played the same hand as the seatbelts and waited til I was out of the state. 'Mate, we're not going to rebuild the whole car for you'. Sorry, I just thought it would be nice to be able stop. ****.

TRE's - $150
Bushes - ?? [was part of spring upgrade package]
Brakes - $300

During original negotiations he promised to have a small patch of rust removed in the rear quarter. Found it untouched the other day. 'I'll have that professionally removed and painted'.

Rust removal/repaint - $lots

Steer clear. All promises til the cash is in the bank.

Google check on the pricing.
Australia brand new VDJ 78 = Rounded figure $70g
Japan used HZJ 76 = Rounded figure 2m yen

About $30g or more cheaper.:bang:

and if u bought at an auction u can get them for less than 1m yen
and the other reason i would import one is because they look awesome and they r not is australia

They are worth lots still. Nice 77s sell for lots, ask me how I know and I was involved with the auction process....

So would you say around 30k for a nice hzj76 .
If I knew more about buying cost, importing costs and rules, I would be super keen on a fully optioned jdm hzj74

let me how you go. i wanted a later model SWB 70 series which has the 1hz in it. container would be 2-3k and being built after 1989 it will need to be complianced which is normally anywhere between 2-5k, the more stock it is the better. Remember import tax and other taxes and agent fees... all ads up! alot of low kms cars in Japan and original condition.
