read extensively over on the blue forums and did a search here; however, opinions are like assholes.

i know the FSM states that two different greases should be used for the driveshaft (6 zerks total?); however, I have to imagine that there is one lube to rule them all.

both recommendations have the word "lithium" in them; however, one has molybdenum in it.

i read that Amsoil synthetic heavy duty extreme pressure moly-fortified grease is a rockstar and good for everything on the truck.

another cat chimed in and stated that Moly grease is NOT recommended for u-joints as it will plate the surfaces and should ONLY be used on slip joints.

???

if i absolutely positively HAVE to go buy TWO greases today along with TWO guns today, gimme recommendations.

the Amsoil synthetic moly sounds good for the slips.

what should i grab for the u joints?

what about Mobil 1 Synthetic???

can i safely use that for all 6 points on both u-joints and slip joints?

I use it in every truck, car, motorcycle, and tractor zerk that I own and am happy with the results. I have 140,000 miles on my factory original u-joints and slip yokes so far, and who knows how many on my Land Cruisers.

cool.....yeah, i took your advice i found over on the blue forums.

thanks bud.

i've been religious about changing my oil; however, NOT lubing my shaft. :)

bought truck @ 50K...it's now 103K !!!!!!!

i pumped about 8-10 HALF pumps (awkward angle, couldn't get full motion) into the slip zerks before I knew they were the slip zerks. the fact that they haven't been touched in that long has me hopeful that i won't lock them up and cause any damage.

think i should be good to go???

I agree with Rick; you'll be fine as long as the slip yoke is not packed completely full. They don't need to be anything close to full; just enough to lube the splines as they slip, and they don't slip very far under normal use anyway.

Did you see in the recommended service schedule that ideally the u-joints should be greased every 5,000 miles? If you're not doing a lot of water crossings then every 10-15,000 is adequate in my opinion. I do mine every oil change, but I only change oil about every 12,000 miles.
