I am in the process of putting a stock electronic distributor on my 2F and need some help with wiring the igniter. There are two leads that go to the igniter. One is white and the other is what used to be possibly red. The red one I believe gets hooked to one of the black yellow wires that comes from the ignitions switch (key on). According to the Haynes the other one (white) is hooked to the starter. Is this correct? Not sure if this unit even works but I would like too not fry it if it does.
thanks for any help,

Eva

Hopefully someone out there can answer better than I can, it been a few years since I installed mine and a couple of years since I removed it. I know if you hook it up wrong (constant 12 volt with switch off), the ignitor will burn out. One will go to the starter to get power during cranking because the ignition switch won't give power during cranking, and the other will hook to that black yellow. I don't know about that resistor either.

Ok its kinda coming back to me. Go from the starter (12 volts ONLY during cranking) to the + terminal on the coil. Hook the black yellow to the ignitor. Black yellow also gets hooked up to the + terminal on the coil, but is to go through the resistor. You should have all the wires there already, just figure out which one is switched power from the key and which is 12 volts from the starter when engaged.

The red and white wires go to the distributer.

Its all on page 286 of the haynes manual. Clear as mud?

edit: I'm not sure about having 12 volts going to the coil with the ignition on. After I installed mine I thought about removing the resistor but never did. I don't know where I dreamed it up either. Maybe someone with the setup installed from the factory can check their voltage while running and pipe up here. Oh ya and make sure you keep the condensor in the ground ciruit to prevent electronic "noise". Sorry for the length.

Thanks for the link. I've now have it wired like the diagram say and I am getting spark at the plugs but it shows no sign of turning over? It was running ok before with the after market unit. I am almost positive that the distributor is not reversed 180 and even if it was it would still stutter a little. I cant figure out why I am getting so little response if I have spark at the plug?

thanks for you input

Hmmm, ya got me. You are right about the 180 out, if it was, I would think it would stutter and back fire. Double check that you are getting 12 volts to the + side of the terminal during crank and 9 or so volts with the key on. It could be getting the crank signal but no power for regular running. Other than that, I would double check the distributer.
