A friends 1994 FZJ80 is having having problems with the ignition lock.
Put they key in try to turn it and it wont turn, took it apart and everything looks to be in the correct position. He put some graphite in the key slot, it helped in the past, but now it is stuck for good. Any ideas what it could be?

have you gotten a new key from the dealer yet, or are you still using the 11 year old key, or a local store cut copy of the 11 year old key?

you got it, get a NEW key cut from the dealer and it will work like new.

the dealer will need the key code, or proof of ownership, registration, insurance papers etc. A new key fixed my lock problems on three of my rigs. And there is a differance between dealer and local hardwear store keys.

Don't think there's anything wrong with the local hardware store but more to blame would be taking a 10 year old worn down key in there to use as the template for them to cut the new one from.

I don't know if this will be a problem down the line or not, but I probably wouldn't use graphite in the ignition lock. Reason I say this is because my dad did this on his 87 4Runner. The graphite got into the electrical parts and caused the starter to stay engaged when it shouldn't have. The graphite conducted and shorted the terminals, so he had to clean it out using compressed air.
So instead of graphite try using some oil or dry teflon powder, just so you don't have problems later on.

I totaly agree, I took down my freshly cut keys and had copies made, the dealer cut keys are now masters. I should have worded my post differantly
