Ok wife called... she had locked the ONLY (stupid I know) working key inside her Lx470 in the Whole Foods Parking lot... "what should I do" I do a quick internet search and the answer I see most is... Call a locksmith or go to the dealer and get a new key programmed based on the Vin., On my way to get her she has called an 800# for some popalock and a guy called her said he was on his way, but would NOT give her a price "don't worry I not charge you much" but would not tell her how much... so she told him not to come....
(on the way there my son informed me she always locks the doors via the door switch as she gets out of the car vs using the key fob... )
I pick her up, we make the ride down to my warehouse where I have a complete locksmith door opening "kit" we go to dinner... and make our way back to the lexus (in my fine riding LC btw)
Here is how I gained entry since you read the back story without details of the dinner
in my locksmith set there are several white nylon wedges I was able to insert in the top corner of the door frame, I easily got a 1/4" gap to be able to get a fish rod through(those white plastic/fiberglass rods used to pull electric/alarm wire through walls) I'd put a wire hook on the end... through the windshield I had spotted her keys between the drivers seat and the center console... I was able to hook the keys with the fishrod, bring them up to the gap in the door frame, (no way to fit the keys through the 1/4" gap) and using a small metal rod press the unlock button on the keyfob....
Depending on your relationship with your wife... rewards may vary and may need to be spelled out in advance of services provided.
The thing to note here is that there is enough spring in the door frame to get a gap in which to insert a rod or wire without damage to the door or weather strip... the only tool I needed out of the locksmith kit was the plastic wedge... but anything... wood or rubber or plastic that won't hurt the paint would work... I think I could have hit the unlock switch on the door if retrieving the keys did not work... I had all the slimjims that go between the glass down into the door... but even though I have been inside the doors I didn't remember where the lock rods were or how they operated...
