If Ken Hanna can do this to an 80, why can't.....

John,

Give him your truck and he'll do it. He wants to do it - he already knows how he is going to do it - he just needs a customers truck and the customer that is going to pay.

A man of your status - you'd be the perfect customer! :flipoff2:

Think of how much more popular you will be ... :D

Yeah, Shotts...consider this your double dog dare.

Not sure if you're serious? Hanna is ready to slap a front suspension like that onto a 100? Cost? You serious?

John,

Ken has been talking about this and have been thinking about it for a long time. He just needs the right customer - it will take a little time because it won't be a bolt on situation - a few things with the ABS - thinking an 80 series axle front and rear - gotta deal with the ABS stuff - there is plenty of room to mount things - the rear is close - the front will be a little tricky but doable - gotta deal with the steering setup.

Also - customer has to decide if they want coilovers or 80 series front suspension setup.

We all know he does great quality work and background with desert trucks and crawler trucks.

Wow.....I don't want to get too excited on this. I don't want to change my current 100. I do plan on buying another 100 to build like I did my LX (frame cut, shorten, 36-37" tires. I think I'll call Ken. Is he in California?

That would be a 25-30K conversion at any reputable shop.

These cars are not rockcrawlers. I cannot fathom spending that kind of coin on a huge ass heavy wagon just to get a solid axle under it.

I would rather have an 80 series with an LT-1 in it.

Yup, Pismo Beach / San Luis Obispo area. He's on MUD as well ,can't remember his moniker.

edit: Oops, 4Lo beat me to it.

Word. ;)

We've been trying to convince John of that for years, but it hasn't worked yet...

Here you go Nolen...currently in progress...

Good choice of engines. As reliable as a Toyota motor, just much more power in stock form.

Don't get me wrong, a SAS 100 would be killer. Fun and a show topic, but as far as making the car the end all be all of vehicles with a SAS swap, you still are dealing with a 6-8000 pound rig that is WIDE with a ton of sheetmetal and glass to deal with.

Anyone willing to take a 100 places that would warrant that conversion should look into a pourpose built rig for that type of wheeling and keep the 100 for the type of wheeling it is good for.

Jeez Nolen let the 100 have some fun with he 80s if it wants to ; )

The solid axle 100 is offered out of country for a reason. The solid axle will allow 35 to 37 tires with out braking CVs and steering parts like twigs. Bigger tires provide better floatation for tha heavy rig to get stuck less, go through deep water crossings. 100s are great for expedition and even exploring the outback can turn ugly and break parts. We all know a solid axle is stronger and more reliable than IFS.

The stock IFS 100 cruises the mall ncie though ; )

Really? Do you know how much less an 80/LX like mine weighs compared to the typical ARB/Slee? 200-300 pounds. That's all the more a 100 is over an 80.

My 2nd 100 would be frame cut and downsized like my 80's and not weigh any more than a typical 80 out there in Moab.

Maybe you meant to say....."a huge sized wagon"? :)

I don't think he's saying that 80s are rock crawlers and 100s aren't. I think he's saying that neither are rock crawlers and both are huge and heavy. So, he'd rather have an LT1 80 than an SFA 100 for the money.

Remember that Nolen wheels a rock buggy. His rigs are 100% rock crawler. The kind of rock crawling he's talking about are things wagons can only dream of.

Oh, he very well could be. That's the trouble with plain writing vs talking. Sometime's it's hard to tell. And yes, I'm not up for $20-30 either. That's plain dumb IMO.

My response was more regarding seeing "heavy" and "solid axle" in the sentence. There already is a heavy 80 and a heavy 100 with solid front axles.

Exactly my point.

Keep the 100 for what it is and get one of these for rockcrawling :D

Yes, I see that point. That's the decision I made last November. I gave my '93 to my son and had to decide what to replace it with. Another 80 or another 100? The 80 was the smart choice because it is more capable off-road, costs less, and should be in my stable.

I still want another 100. I want to non-bling it, but rather Lexus-ize the thing like I did my 80's. Then pinstripe and beat it to death. I figured adding a solid axle might be a go until Ken's response. (He sure doesn't like thoe 100-series)

A buggy and that slow rock crawling stuff isn't my cup of tea. I did think about buying a Rubicon and Dana 60-ing the thing. Not sure I'd use it though....too uncomfortable.
