Is this a real thing? Looks interesting.

That's like the Holy Grail of add on without sourcing the non Nav HVAC controls, mounts and bezels. I looked for too much time and couldn't source anything like that. I finally attached a 4" aluminum accessory rail right in front of the trip computer controls with backing plate between the platform in front of the trip computer and the top of the NAV screen with a bracket attaching the bracket plate to the radio side brackets. There is no give and externally there are only two holes in the bezel.

I bought a android head rest unit off AliExpress and essentially RAM mounted it on the rail and ran the wires through the center speaker and behind the Nav unit. I still haven't cleaned up the install by mounting ports in the center console and a more permanent place for my Carplay dongle. The headrest unit is powered on via 12V and charges the iPhone when connected to the dongle. It solves the problem of having a tablet mounted and not being able to charge it and phone at same time if using Carplay. With supplies, headrest unit and dongle I am only in about $180 and everything remains factory for now.

Every solution has pros and cons and I wasn't ready to chop up my dash just yet or spend $600 on an imperfect glitchy solution. I wanted to retain the ability to get to my trip computer. My set up will work for now. I ended up way too many hours in on the project however.

I still wonder why someone hasn't made a product that replaces the HVAC controls with physical buttons and digital readout then allows you to integrate any double din for the rest of the functions. I have a 2008 Nav so sourcing the non-nav controls used is nearly impossible.

Do you have pictures of how your setup looks? Sound very interesting even if temporary.
