Hi
i've searched the forum for a straight answer, but couldn't find it.
What's the usual Idle speed of the 100 series on closed loop, with A/C on and off?
I get a very steady 780rpm (right under the 800 line) with the AC off, but when the AC is on it moves around constantly and it gets as low as 600rpm, which causes the oil pressure to drop to the absolute minimum ( L mark)
I cleaned up the TB and fixed some noticeable leaks in the intake.

Thanks in advance

On my 04 the RPMs with AC off are between 590 and 610. Monitored via scan gauge. Stays at constant RPM plus or minus a few RPMs but not hardly noticeable on the tach.

With AC clutch engaged It runs right at 700 or so.

My oil pressure gauge usually sits at the 1/4 mark at idle and then just about mid point during normal driving.

My idle is a little erratic as well. It fluctuates when I'm sitting still. I plan on checking intake boots and throttle body this weekend. It's not bad but noticeable.

My oil pressure is pretty much always at the 1/4 hash unless I'm accelerating.

If your having issues with a lower idle speed and maybe a rough idle there are several things you can check to help make your engine run better and bring that idle back up. Throttle body: unless you've cleaned it recently I can almost guarantee it needs to be cleaned. Gunk builds up around the butterfly valve and cause poor airflow. Check filter, make sure it's clean and air flows well. Clean MAF. A can of 44k in the gas tank can help clean up any gunk in your fuel injectors. And finally half a can of sea foam in the Pcv vacuum line.

All of the above raised my idle by ~100-200 rpm, truck runs vary smooth and doesn't shake as bad when the AC clutch is engaged.

I cleaned up the TB about 3 weeks ago. it got better but as good as i'd like. i was thinking on putting the lucas oil injector cleaner, never heard of the the 44K. is it good?

44k is a little more pricey, but well worth it. Tried the Lucas stuff and didn't really see a difference.

FSM has the idle speed listed SS-52

With AC on your RPM should be slightly higher. Although mine sometimes momentarily drops in the low 600's with the AC on.

I stated 600 rpms at idle above but that's in Drive. Idle in neutral or park are right at 700 in my truck.

Thanks for posting the FSM snipet. Nice to see my truck is in spec.

Here's a picture of the my idle speed in gear and oil pressure after driving 30 minutes.

What does TB stand for? Is that Timing Belt?

I know this is an old thread, but did cleaning the TB fix the idle drop? I swear mine is getting worse but it’s more likely once I noticed it, I fixated on it. I need to get a scan gauge to be sure/accurate but in drive with the a/c on sitting at a red light my rpm’s will drop under 600 for a second and then you’ll hear it catch itself and rev back to roughly 750rpms. My 100 came with a cold air intake (since gone back to oem airbox/filter) and I’m assuming that oil from the cold air intake filter is gunking up the throttle body. It does not have an idle drop/dip in neutral/park with a/c on. No issues with oil pressure.

Following this b/c this post describes my idle speed to a T.

I should add I’ve cleaned MAF, TB, replaced fuel filter. About to look at doing PCV and grommet (2000LC) and checking vacuum lines.

The two wire coolant temp sensor located under the intake hose between the throttle body and air box controlls the idle speed. If it has not been replaced, get an OEM sensor. 4afe 92 corolla sensor works too! you can replace it without draining coolant and you won't lose a drop of coolant, if you do it while engine and air is cold, like in the morning.

Mine had high rpm and with the replacement of this sensor, it dropped to 700.
