Hey All,
Proud owner of a 2006 LX470 that I picked up in 2009 with about 50K miles. The truck has been rock solid other than two issues where the truck seemed to start stumbling and then would stall out.
First time was when driving from Seattle to Idaho, I think summer of 2012 maybe. Truck had maybe 65K miles Pulled off in Spokane to get some gas. The temp outside was pretty hot (around 100F) and I was at a stoplight. The tach dropped from the normal 600 rpm down to about 400 and the engine seemed to be stumbling. Light changed and I applied gas, but the engine wouldn't go over 1000 rpm. Even at full throttle, engine stayed at 1000 RPM max and I slowly crawled through the intersection with the dude behind me honking at me. Pulled onto side of road and engine stalled. Waited a couple minutes and the truck started and ran normally. No engine lights, the coolant gauge read normal before and after it happened. Seemed to run fine rest of trip so I wrote it off to possible vapor lock due to a heat soaked engine and outside temp being high.
Fast forward to this summer (Aug 2018). Truck has about 95K miles now. On another road trip. Temp shows at about 85F outside. Was driving for a couple hours and came upon some construction on the highway. Come to a stop. Truck idles at 600 RPM for 30 seconds or so and then idle drops to approx 400 and does the whole stumble and stall thing again. Waited a couple of minutes and truck started up fine. Drive a couple miles and see construction again. Another stopped lineup of cars and bam, same thing happens over again. Wait a minute or two, truck starts up and runs fine. No check engine lights or codes. Coolant gauge/alternator reading was reading normal both before and after.
I was using regular gas on both occasions that it happened. I've switched to premium after the last time it happened on the theory that premium is less volatile if it is indeed a vapor lock issue.
Curious to know what you guys think might be happening and if there is someting to check out to prevent it from happening in the future. I did do a search of the forum and ran across some other threads with people having similar issues, but didn't see any definitive solutions.
