Is there a way to identify that a tranny sitting on the ground is an H41 or an H42? Here in Guatemala vehicles imported direct had H41's but vehicles brought down from the states had H42's of course. I'm going to look at a tranny tomorrow but I need to know how to tell what I'm looking at.

Is there a gear to count teeth on or???

Put it in first gear, turn the input shaft, and count the number of rotations it takes to make the output shaft rotate once...

Did your friend get the gear?

Good luck!

Hi All:

Take the top plate (i.e. the top cover) off of the transmission - on the H41 the first gear is huge - it barely fits into the transmission housing! The first gear on the H42 would be obviously smaller.

On the outside, the two transmissions look the same.

The first gear ratios are, 4.9 to 1 for the H41, and 3.55 to 1 for the H42.

HTH.

I won't be seeing her till the end of the week or beginning of next week but I'm not worried. As you can see it's not holding things up yet.
