This caught my eye sitting in a driveway in Hanoi, Vietnam. Anyone know the specs on her?

70 series, is it not? We weren't lucky enough to get them here in the US...

Yep, I'm wrong and Juan is right. It's a LJ78

I think some countries received an LJ77 or something to that effect too. It had a 3L engine instead of 2lte, rear drum brakes instead of disks, among a few other things. This looks like it might be one of those, as it says Landcruiser II on it instead of Prado. Also, it doesn't say 'turbo' on it, which could rule out the 2lte and 1kz. 3L is a good engine, but would be a bit underpowered in that rig.

I think they put the 22R in some of these too...which would make it an RJ77.

In any case, it's definitely a "light duty" 70 series wagon. Meaning it has a smaller engine and smaller axles than the heavy duty. Coil sprung instead of leaf.

Wow, if only these made their way to the US. GTSSportCoupe, what's a good website Canadians use to track some of these down?

Be careful what you wish for ..... :D

The Japanese Prado was imported to Canada pretty heavily around 2006-2007. Folks thought they were the cat's meow until they began having problems with the 2.4l 2LTE diesel engines. For a variety of reasons, these engines are susceptible to overheating and cracking their cylinder heads. An expensive item to repair...

I run a Prado and love it. I've found ways of improving the small 2LTE engine to prevent the overheating problems. But most owners don't want to have to deal with this sort of thing.

I don't think anyone is importing the 70 series Prados anymore because of the head problems and their age now. However the original imported ones do come up for sale used in Canada quite often. They are around $5k to 8k in good shape, and about $3k with wrecked heads.

They are pretty rare in Vietnam as well .I spent a total of 7 weeks there and only saw a early model dark blue 75 series in Da Lat.
They have a lot of petrol 80 and 100 series, nearly always a silver colour.

TONS of 80s and 100s. Apparently they are being imported into Vietnam illegally. And yes, mostly silver.

The dealers do sell landcruisers, but yes a lot of illegal importation happens there. I have friend who is a motorbike smuggler:D

That looks a freakishly lot like mine. But mine has fender flares, different mirrors, a chrome grill, the top of my doors are black, and mine doesn't have the canteen holder on the back door.

Mine has a 1kz-t. Light duty. And from what I can tell mine is a KZJ77.

Hopefully the pix show up:

The frame has a number on the front right around the rear of the front wheel well. Itll tell you exactly what it is. Should be on the driver (rhd) side. Not sure about lhd but should be in the same spot on either side. Its stamped into the metal.
