What is this part and where does it go?

I THINK it came out of the split transfer case I am rebuilding.... but it COULD be from the 4 speed I took the case from or the H55 5 speed I'm bolting it onto...
.

Just a guess, but it looks like an input gear spacer between trans and t-case. If you look on the machined surface it looks as if a double seal has been riding on it. I have not seen this part in any of the t-cases I have done.

Dimensions of the inside & outsides, not to mention length, might be helpful.

It's definitely not part of the internals or the back half of a later split case.

Dynosoar was right in that it fits over the tranny output shaft. Larger OD id the same as the PTO gear spacer, smaller OD is... slightly smaller. The smaller diameter area has 4 small crossdrilled holes...

does the larger od match the inside diameter of the t-c ninput sale? if so, then there's your answer........

but it does look different than an other spacer i've seen there. was the t-c behind an H41?

No, the TC was behind a US h42 4 speed.

But the ID of the tranny/TC input seal seals the OD of the input gear (extension piece - the longer of the 2) right? If this spacer was at the seal instead of the gear it would push the gear too far rearward... no?

There are a few different gears the early cases input gear did not have the seal surface on it and used a spacer locked in place with a BB. My guess is someone rebuilt this case lost the space and machined a new one.

I keep thinking it's a carrier for the clutch release bearing, but I know the land cruiser ones have tabs. I don't understand the cross drilled holes, except that they are used to clip it to another part.

i think dyno is on the right track.

the holes could be there for several reasons:

locate the bb

oiling passages

the material the spacer was machined from could have had the holes in it already

what's the input gear look like?!

But my input gear has the seal surface.. it is from the USA split TC that was originally attached to a USA H42 4 speed.

Is it possible that this piece was from the Aussie split TC (with a fairey OD & parking brake attached) that was originally attached to this 5 speed? (I sold that TC in favor of a USA split). That would mean that that TC had an input gear without the seal surface (and the buyer will be wanting this piece...)

Can anyone confirm this? Speculation is fine but I want to be sure I didn't leave a part out during this rebuild!

holes are smaller than a #2 pencil lead.... not really big enough for a BB or for an oil passage for that matter.

Inside surface of this piece is polished under the wider part and rougher under the machined down part... just like the outside looks.

You frighten me Jim....

Yes, thanks... I'll contact the guy that bought the fairey from me today to get this to him....

It is the input spacer from a split Case fairey. Fairey ill. #84 or 85, PN 6800 or 6801.

HTH

the od of the id say that .......... aw hell I have no idea :bang:
