How is it dishonest? The size is in the name...... 51mm. Is the kings a Bypass shock too ?
Maybe I’m wrong on that. I just recall seeing information on them stating 2.5 shock.

Just my .02$. I've been running icon coilovers for 4 years. Havent had any problems I didnt create. Just my experience. Have heard several horror stories of poor service.

To the original post, what I have done while getting shocks rebuilt:

Open bypass screws on kdss.
Lift front of truck and place on jackstsnds.
Remove wheel, bottom two bolts on lower ball joint. Lift hub and place jackstand under hub, on the flat part of the rotor.

Mark location of cam bolts on lower control arms. Loosen lower cam bolts. Remove drivers side sway bar linkage. Remove lower shock mounting bolt.
This should allow the lower arm to fall out of the way.
Remove the four bolts on top of shock and remove shock from vehicle.

If you dont want to have truck on jackstands while shocks are out, use stock cruiser coilovers with lifting block on top until icons get back.

Installation is opposite of steps above. Get fresh alignment when it's all said and done.

Yes it is.

BP51's have never claimed to be 2.5's. they are a 2.0 or 51mm (hence the name). The rear 3.0's are bypass, the fronts dont need to be due to valving.
Not sure where I thought I read that it was claiming to be a 2.5, but I must have crosss read it with another shock.

The King 3.0" shocks height\preload is adjusted from the bottom, King 2.5" shocks are adjusted from the top.

no issues with mine either. Call me crazy but, when mine are ready for rebuild, I

Would the OEM 2.5 King set with front and rear compression adjusters provide a 2.5" lift or same height as ICON 3.0 stage 6 setup or would you need to do a custom length option? Also, if I were to change out my ICONS at some point, could I maintain my ICON UCA billet and Icon Springs with the KINGS?

For what it's worth I got to say in my research about coilovers it was impressive to here almost all positive information on King however I did hear negative information on every single other manufacturer.. so if I ever went with an adjustable shock for me personally there is no question it would be king

Does ICON make a rear bypass frame bracket or does the KING rear bypass frame bracket holder work with the ICON reservoir?

Dang. I was planning on pulling the trigger soon on 2.5 Icons with cdcv.
I have them on my 100 and LOVE them. I’ve only had them on for a year and maybe 10000 miles but there have been no signs of trouble.
All of this negative talk about Icons on the 200 makes me wonder if that’s the best decision.

i love my 3.0 ICONs. Maybe they are built better for our heavy LC then the 2.5s people are having issues with or they weren’t maintained or installed correctly 🤷🏻 Either way, I’m switching to Kings when i have to have mine rebuilt, this way I will always have an extra set when swapping...at least that’s the excuse I’m giving my wife 🤠

I finally pulled out the leaking shock. Here's what I learned.

TLDR: Loosen the KDSS.

1. It helps to have a mechanic next door.
2. Jack up the front two tires and loosen the kdss valves 2.5 turns. (Mark them first)
3. Loosen the top 4 screws for the top of the shock mount and then loosen the lower shock mount.
4. Remove the bolts separating the lower control arm from the spindle.
4. We tried removing the tie rod but it was a pain so we kept it on. It didnt interfere with the removal but itd be easier if it was disconnected.
5. We tried to not remove the shock without the kdss loosened and it was pretty impossible to move the lower control arm any lower.
6. Be sure to loosen the remote reservoir prior to removing the shock (self critiquing).

Sorry no pics!

I thought I'd provide an update FWIW.

I got my coilover back from Icon yesterday. The truck was on Jack stands for two weeks. That's a pretty long turn around but icon covered all shipping and the replacement of the shaft, seals, oil, and they put a new sticker on there. Their packaging was awesome. No issues putting the shock on. Now time will tell if it continues to leak but I doubt it will.

Also, I drove away with my kdss valves left open by accident. Just pulled over and tightened them on the road. No issues there either.

I thought I provide a fair review since there have been some negative views of icon. I'll update this again if need be.

I worry that there is some confusion.
Does ICON make a rear bypass frame bracket or does the KING rear bypass frame bracket holder work with the ICON reservoir?

That's a remote reservoir bracket. Bypass tubes are attached to shock body. But to answer your question probably as long as the hose was long enough, since it's using adjustable straps. (not trying to be picky, but King does sell bypass shocks that also have remote reservoirs)

Yes, I like the rear remote reservoir bracket that King makes. I can’t seem to find just the bracket for sale.

Thought i'd update this.

The right coilover is now leaking. The truck has hardly been driven, and it seems they just randomly blow their seal. I'm not in town so I can't take a good look at it right now. Pretty sure I'll need to send it to Offroad Warehouse for a rebuild instead of Icon due to the warranty being up. Good stuff....

Icon does not deserve the facade of the reputation they have…..
