I have posted a few times about a windshield replacement for my ‘03 LC and can’t believe how hard it it is. Got two recommendations, one for a guy at a Safelite an hour from me and another for an independent shop two hours from me. Long story short, the independent guy told me he wasn’t interested and I ended up going with the Safelite. The shop and guy were recommended here and had done another member’s LX so I believed. Just had it done yesterday, waited until everything dried to check it out closely. It’s a disaster. Making creaking sounds on bumps, and trim was totally misinstalled, with missing rivets, loose molding, and general crap work.

How is this so hard? At this point I will make a road trip of it and go to anyone who will not screw this up. I’m going to a lot of trouble to prevent rust everywhere else and can’t let myself become the horror story who loses his truck to rust because of a bad windshield install.

So - anyone got a killer glass guy who you swear by? I honestly don’t care where he is. Let me know, and I’m there.

Gama Auto Glass, Greg. He helped me replace my windscreen. 19173248948.

Get the rivets and mouldings that you need ahead of time for him.

What's the general price range for a new windshield? And, has anyone had trouble getting OEM quality glass for an LX?

Thanks.

Getting started on a replacement on my 99 LX now, it cracked in the recent cold snap we had when I turned the defrost on. I got a shop recommendation from Torfab, our local cruiser specialist and they got approval for all OEM Lexus glass and trim from my insurance. They said Lexus showed one with the bronze tint in stock in their CA warehouse. I would have been fine with a quality aftermarket like Pilkington or PPG as well, though am happy to have OEM.

Edit: ~$1900 for the glass, trim, and labor

Thanks. My 02 LX also has the bronze tint, which I really like, and I worry about getting matching color and quality when it comes time.
