hello, im new to all of this.(not to wheelin lol) I've been wheelin all my life but now im ready to have a wheeler of my own. I have an 83' pickup. shes my baby. Ive been trying to build her up for 2 years now, but everything keeps breaking down! im on my 3rd motor, second driveshaft, third set of tires etc etc:p. now my truck is on a two inch body lift with 33's. cant wheel it at all because everything wasnt converted to make up for the lift so my throttle gets stuck on either my air filter or the little weird canister thingy on my firewall. i have chevy springs for my rear end and wagoneers for the front, and marlin 4:70 gears all sitting in the garage waiting for me to buy the rest of everything :). as you can tell im in need of a lot of things. of course i moved out of the house and im on my own so money is sparce. if anyone could let me know where i could find CHEAP lockers, gears, a transfer case and adapter, and anything else i can think of right now, that would be wonderfull, im ready to get my little truck built allready:D. thanks, Chelsea

Sounds like you've got a great start and a steadily increasing pile of parts, which is good.

IMO, I would ditch the body lift. As you can see its already causing problems. are you sure your throttle isnt sticking because it just needs to be lubed? Try pulling the throttle cable out of its tube, cleaning it off and lubing it well with WD40 and putting it back in. Might help.

As for parts, your best bet on finding good deals on stuff like that are at places like

pirate4x4.com/forum - lots of classifieds here, I built my 4runner almost entirely with used parts found on the Pirate classifieds

board.marlincrawler.com - same as above, parts for sale board

the mud classifieds

and craigslist.

I listed craigslist last because craiglist users tend to be a lot shadier, and a lot flakier than users on pirate, marlin, and mud. Start looking there, that is going to be your best bet in finding what you need. Also all these sites have WANTED forums too, so you can always post a wanted add and see if anyone has what you need. good luck and be sure to post your build up when you do start!

word to the wise. get "CHEAP" out of your vocabulary....

doing the "cheap" will cost you more in the long run and you don't have to have the "cheap lift" with "cheap lockers" with "cheap gears" and "cheap tires" to be able to go off road...

oh, I forgot the "cheap winch" and "cheap snorkel"

Welcome to Mud Chelsea :D It sounds like you have a pretty nice truck already.... Having grown up in a wheeling family, you probably feel your truck is "not built yet" because you are used to seeing tricked out trucks that have had years of work done to them.... I'm set up more or less like you, and I don't have any trouble wheeling, in fact it's probably more fun when you have a challenge....

I just rode on the Rubicon with a friend who's truck is all done up, lockers, orien t-case, sliders, tires, lift, bumpers, etc..... we only had to back up like 4 times.... It was fun, but there was no challenge what so ever...

So fix what's wrong with it now, and keep your eyes open for the good deals on what you want, but you don't have to dive right in feet first.

A good driver can achieve much without spending thousands in a rig;)

thats true, but whats the fun in thatt? well besides losing your house, having your wife leave you and getting sued by your debtors?
C'mon, 88! Live a little!!

well i know for sure its getting stuck on those two things because when i got twisted up at hollister i couldnt push the peddle down so we popped the hood and it was stuck on the canister and then this year at Mud-n-yer eye Frolic (MTA event, ya im in MTA) my truck was driving itself lol i would push the peddle a little and it would push itself more if i was twisted up. i want to ditch the body lift BAD!!! but i need to do my suspension lift first, which is where the problem lies. i had to do the body lift because my 31s had a bent rim from driving up to uncle toms last winter so i needed new tires i couldnt afford them and my brother's land cruiser didnt have a motor in it but had a nice set of 33s so i took those, well they didnt fit without rubbing the fenders, i just happened to win the body lift from a PMC swap meet raffle about 2-3 years ago so we slapped that on real quick and called it done...i have a HUGE list of other things we've had to do but it would be a book. lol thanks for the advise. :) as i said im new to finding parts on my own so i could use all the help i can get.

true, my dad is living proof of that, his 69' land cruiser was bone stock when we first starting wheelin it on the rubicon years ago. i was always told that it never matters in the rig, but on how well you drive. and i am a pretty decent driver...but my truck deffinetly cant do the rubicon right now. lol:p

oh and by the way the truck in your pic looks like my mom's 84' :D

Hah, whacha mean its just a baby that can't do anything?

You've got an awesome truck there, really all you need is maybe a rear aussie and you can go about anywhere you want to go....

Pff flex, drive it... :bounce:

well it still has issues with the throttle getting stuck when im flexed otherwise i would agree. i want to get rid of the darn body lift...and do my suspension lift with dual trannys and 37s and 5:29 of course with ARB lockers (in my dreams right or when i win the lottery) :) i have my dream truck all drawn out in my head. lol it will be silver with purple axles, steering and inside cage lol.

I think we'd have to win the lottery a few times to finish building our trucks to the maximum hardcore limit. Well if there is a limit.

I could easily dump 80 grand into my truck and still want more.

Oh, how I would LOVE to do that :D

heres a little of what im competing with...the first is my mom's 84' on the Rubicon(at Rubithon). the second is my boyfriend's 86' 4 runner on the Rubicon and the third is my brother's 63' Land Cruiser he is building from the ground up, he just got it running he is pretty excited! this is just an older pic and those were my second set of tires. lol one of them popped on me while i was sitting at my boyfriends house so i was driving home with three 33s and one 35 lol (his spare, mine was flat)
