I have fj80 axles I am putting under an FJ40. What are the best/strongest hubs to use with this axle and who sells them? Since I am not running a full time four wheel drive set up all I need are the hubs, not the complete kits I have heard about. Thanks

Why not just use the drive plates that came with them? I would think that they're at least as strong as selectable hubs.

Unless you're planning on a lot of street driving, I wouldn't even worry about the fact that the shafts are spinning even in 2H.

my $.02,
Eric

Aisin locking hubs will be the stongest, after the drive plates

I am also using FJ80 axles under a 55. I did a little research on this before I decided to keep the fulltime 4 wheel drive system. Like everyone has said the Aisin Hubs are your best bet but depending on what year the axles are you will need the hubs and a spacer. Getting info on which axles need spacers and which axles do not is a little difficult, I would say that your best bet for hubs would be to call the guys at MarlinCrawler and get a set of their rebuilt hubs ($100) they might also know if you need the spacer.

Good luck,
Ryan.

I've heard that the common 40/60/minitruck hubs do not have enough depth to work with the newer 95+ (?) 80 series birfields. The set of hubs that came with an 80 series part time conversion I bought is a good 5 mm deeper than the standard Aisin hubs.

In markets where the 80 is also available as part time 4WD, the part time models retain the shorter birfields if I understand it correctly.
