I am looking at a 1997 40th addition LC with lockers. One owner all maintenance performed on time at local shop. All stock and city driven. The only problem boys is 350k miles, it is a real estate agents LC. Interior immaculate. Can anyone chime in on what would be a decent price to pay and what my engine plan would be for the future and how many miles can I expect to get out of the current engine. Outside is immaculate too. Tires good . Thanks guys and I am a huge newbie so be patient.

350,000 is a lot of miles even for an 80. How much they asking for this thing? What's your plans for it?

I live in the mountains and would like to make it into an offroad mostly rig. The guy is asking 4k but I can't give that . The body is unreal condition and interior too. But I am spooked, I was thinking getting compression test but might not be even worth going down that road.

Gathering all records- but never a head gasket done. All maintenance reported done and will verify.

Mileage can be scary, but just keep in mind with this (as well as most), the service and care of the LC is what matters. I have seen 150,000 mile LCs fall apart quick because of lack of maintenance. Once you get the records, post what has been done the best you can and some better advice will come rolling in. Make sure you do a search for a "cost of ownership" thread. That is a good read so you know what you could be getting into.

IMHO 350k is too much unless you can budget in reserve funds for an engine and transmission rebuild. Not that I would rebuild those as a matter of course, but I would want to make sure that the deal still made sense IF I had to do one or both.

Good luck!
