This is SEMI ONSC related - the weekend of the January Hamom, we kenneled our dogs. After we got back, our Golden Retriever came down with Kennel Cough (she was up to date on her shots) We took her to our regular vet.

Our dogs are house dogs, she's had no exposure to male dogs EVER. We always thought we'd mate her with another AKC golden so we never got her fixed. Monday the huz made mention of her recent weight gain..and you guessed it..looks like she made the best of a weekend away from us. By what Ive found out - she's due any day (63 day gestation) We thought she'd put on some weight. Anybody want a golden mix puppy?:o

Neither of us have ever handled an animal delivery. I can google just as much info as I need but do we even have some sort of legal recourse? I feel like the kennel should at LEAST tell me what kind of male dogs were 'in attendance' that weekend..What do you guys think?

I'm very pissed...have no doubt.

She's a purebred golden - sweetest disposition. Loves water, beach and will swim to exhaustion. She is small - she only weighs 52 lbs, guessing she was the runt of the litter. We got her the day the previous owner was taking her to the pound. She was 18 months old, and owner didn't want to take her to new duty station. She's getting old-shes almost 8 now.

That sucks! The vet should at the very least reimburse you for 1) the cost of boarding her in Jan, 2) any medical costs associated with the pregnancy and post-birth, 3) costs associated with caring for the puppies until they have found new homes, and 4) costs of finding new homes for the puppies.

Jesus I would be so:censor: pissed at that kennel. :censor: I sure hope they help you find good homes to all the puppies. And hell yeah I would want to know the un-neutered males in attendance that weekend. That is just crazy.

Maybe report them to the better business bureau or local chamber of commerce.

Without piling on, that is absolutely unbelievable.

They have serious questions to answer. They must provide some way to identify the "culprit", and, as others stated, provide care for your dog, the upcoming birth as well as assistance for placing the pups.

I can't say I've ever heard of such a situation, crazy...

I have no idea how to handle this with the kennel. I believe controlled calm matter of fact this-isnt-up-for-discussion-get me the-manager-now voice is on the list. I have to get her to the vet and prep her a whelping area. Also concerned that the kennel cough meds and regular vaccinations she has had are a problem. Then explain the IMMINENT birth to my daughter, as well as the likelihood of not all the puppies surviving ( I guess that's common?)

She always has gotten fatter over the winter but I could kick myself for not noticing. Hell it never occurred to me because she's never had opportunity...then I remembered the Hamom weekend.

Confirmation of 4-7 puppies in the next 10 days.

Sorry to hear this...on a ligther note this sounds like the beginning of a personals ad or even an intro on the Dating Game. :hillbilly:

LoL I'm pretty sure she likes pina coladas...and everything else we leave in her reach - humor is always the best defense! Alexs pic made me laugh. But I think he was attempting to say he'd be interested in taking a puppy off my hands ;D

This will certainly merit its own T-Shirt.

"______ _______ Kennel got my Golden Knocked up. Up theirs"

Wow, just wow. I have been to good, well run kennels, once set up correctly it is a pretty straight forward business. Putting un altered dogs of opposite sex together seems to me to be in the top 5 of things NOT to do. I would certainly give the kennel a chance to do the right thing beore I unleashed some hungry lawyer on them.

On the up side, you get to have puppies in the house and your daughter gets to see a miricle of life, up close and personal. By the time they all leave the house, you will go nuts. Enjoy it, puppies around is a lot of fun for sure, and it won't last forever.

I am full up on dogs, we have 3, all rescues.

Oh yeah, the kennel is a business. No matter what, the moment they learn your dog is having puppies they are going to be working hard to limit their exposure and liability. They will be looking for you to prove it happened there.

So when you speak to them go prepared. Have what you want written down, several copies. Have lines for both of you to sign and date and 2 spots for witnesses. Do not bring out the papers until you reach an agreement with them, you can line out things you did not get them to agree to.

If they will not sign, get a lawyer.

I hate that happened, i too have an AKC yellow lab that I plan to breed with another AKC. I would be so upset if that happened.

On the other hand, how do you plan to convince the kennel its their fault? I can easily see them say "what proof do you have"....a calender of events really is much to go on....i hope it works out!

My only actual plan was to tell them I have a dog, due in the next 10 days. If they look at their calendar and do the math they will see that they should at least entertain the possibility of being culpable. Then I'm going to ask what they intend to do. I'll give them 24 hours to respond. Ill be nice, perhaps even understanding given human (and dog) error is not always easy to admit. No threats, they have 24 hours period. I'll even suggest the fact that they have live cameras could help them to determine what happened...if they keep the video.

The Huz has called kennel twice, making no demands he explained the situation. His only request was to know what dogs were not fixed. The first time they took his information and that they'd have to go through his" accountant" . No return call. The second he got someone who started going through a log and made mention that there was another golden, but they weren't sure if he was fixed and that they'd have to contact the owner to clarify.
I wonder if they realize that little initiated contact would change a manageable situation.
I went by 24 hours later and the kid behind the counter took my info again.

Tomorrow I stop being nice.

Don't sweat it, now. Focus on the task at hand, a happy mom and the exciting event in your near future.

Next time you talk with some one representing the kennel, just whisper...we have DNA and are not afraid to use it.

In today's times, DNA testing is becoming a norm, our Rubi had DNA reports from mom, dad and Rubi with a recording of Maury screaming "you ARE the father" (well, maybe that last part is a bit of a stretch).

The point is that all you need to request is the DNA from any intact male staying with them during her visit. Tell them not to worry, you are taking very accurate notes, documenting everything with your vet and will make sure to share all the information with them during your conversation with the local governmental agency responsible for certification as a kennel.

In any event, good luck, like said above, its a special experience...
