i dont get it

i had to remove and install my P/S pump five time before i got one that didnt leak ( re-built OEM)
i never had to remove the bracket from the block. just backed out the three bolts holding the pump on the bracket . they wont fall out because they hit the sh** behind them, but they will push back enough to be able to remove the pump.
am i just lucky?
mines an 84...maybe other years are really different?

in my experience japanese engineers rarely erred. its just that it might not be obvious the correct procedure for doing task x.

have you checked the fsm for exact directions on how to remove it?

did you follow them?

anyhow i would do as youre being told: take a break and go back and get it out however you can: saw the bolt, remove the bracket, whatever, then put a shorter bolt in there for next time.

or, since its such a pos, i offer 40 US $ for it. and i will come pick it up. and fix it on the spot for the return drive home.

one love

I'll give ya another one. The petcock for draining the radiator is right over the frame. Open the petcock, and you get a rainshower of coolant under the truck that no bucket or pan can cover. Why didn't they put some kind of hose off the petcock so you can direct it into a container?

You need to take that stock powere steering pump & throw that sucker as far as you can... off of a tall bridge maybe... Get a saginaw pump and never look back. you get about 2x the steering power, cheap rebuilds and infinate availability. you can get the bracket here: http://www.jtoutfitters.com/product/PSPIO
& the hose here: http://www.jtoutfitters.com/product/YSCLME

Then go to the parts store and pickup a rebuilt pump.

I dicked around with a toyota pump for many years..... they are underpowered, leak prone POS's

oh yeah... don't sell the cruiser, you'll just buy another one

i've declared this weekend and every memorial day weekend from here on out...kick a japanese engineer weekend.

one more try to get this pos fixed, then it goes up for sale. if i don't get bites, it will sit out next to the garage until next november when it's eligible for collector plates and i can get rid of the f'n smog pump and all the b.s. that is blocking access to most everything or i feel the urge to part it out. the last 12 months, the 60 and my 40 have pissed me off so one or both will go on the chopping block.
Hmmm. I take it you're not in sales. :D

Colorado just repealed the smog test law. They'll keep the roadside drive-by test to tag gross polluters.

Pull the smog crap & install aftermarket fuel injection!
That's not exactly true. There is no plan in place at this time, only a directive from the legislature to get a better system. The annual testing will probably go away at some point by 2010, but not this year or anything.

All that aside, I do know that a 60 with fuel injection will pass smog inspection just fine. Leave enough vacuum hose and other smog crap on the engine (disconnected, of course!) to make it look like it's all still there.

Not that I ever did that, or nuthin'. :D
