I went and got myself another 'Yota.

I'd like you all to meet "The Mule". I'll have a buildup thread in the 79-95 series tech section.
$2000.00 for a running, albeit rough on the edges, Yodaman built 1983 Hilux is a good deal in my book.

What she needs:
- new tires
- new springs (front's inverted, and rears have 2 add-a-leafs a piece)
- front drive shaft
- replacement bumpers.

What I want:
-Dark Green Paint
-some extra sound deadening
-a quieter muffler

long-term plans:
in a year or two, as soon as my loan's paid off, I'll swap out the motor for a 1KZ-TE/R151 combo and mate the stock t-case back on there with a Toybox. I'm not looking for a hardcore wheeler, but a capable, fun DD that can take my grandad hunting and fishing in, but has a few "extras" in case I ever need the additional capabilities.

I look forward to the build thread!!! Looks pretty clean for a 1st gen!

There is some building to be done, my friend, and you may get a chance to see her in person next time I'm in your area visiting my grandparents!

And you're right, this is the cleanest first-gen I've seen. Some pretend to be clean, but aren't, and some are just crap with wheels, but this one doesn't have her few flaws hidden.
I like my trucks like I like my women; exactly how they are!

oldie but goodie

I love the old toyota trucks , best 4x4 toyota made ! I"ve seen them wheel in places were you would say no-way .and they donot break ! nice rig

That is a nice truck. Bring it to the meeting next week.

Post up the parts you are looking for there are several members with hidden gems around that might be able to help you out.
Be specific if you are looking for stock or lifted springs. Some of the lift springs require relocation of the hanger and other don't.
Welcome to teh first Generation crowd.

By the way Acura Integra seats fit well and only require you to drill one hole to make them work.

Dave

Thanks for the info Dave, I definitely will keep an eye out for an Integra next pick-n-pull run, or online. My Dad heartily recommends older 'Benz seats because he says they're built for hell and back, but I think he may just have some romantic memories of his old 190D...

I will be posting up for parts very soon, I need a front DS on the cheap, I want to spin this thing on the tractor trail behind my house!

I will be working until 1930 on Thursday, however, my schedule is going to change because my boss forgot about my classes, so maybe I can make it in time, otherwise the hour drive from Yountville may be a problem.

And 55Guy, Thanks!
I think the magic's in the relatively light weight, front beam axle, and tight wheelbase; they're literally like mules, they may never win a race or a beauty pageant, but they'll go near everywhere, and they're so simple.

This thursday
The good news is my bosses reworked my schedule, and I now have an audit shift
Thursday night.

The bad news is, I now work Thursday Night, so no beer with my pizza, but I will be there, with The Mule.

small bolt hole drive shaft or larger? stock length or lifted (flange to flange for measuring purposes) Alot of us still have first gen driveshafts around.

Looks like the bolt holes are about 1/4" diameter on the flange, stock springs front and rear. If you can scare something up, I'd be much obliged.

Many different lengths depending on what transmission it currently has in it. Hence the flange to flange measurment.

Transmission's an L52 5-speed, 21.5" flange-to-flange.

Is that your truck you just got on Hwy. 12 for sale already.

Is this directed at me? This is my first truck in a couple years, and I have no plans to sell it just yet.
