Have any pictures of this setup? First I’ve heard of it, and the parts diagrams and pictures on google of the assembly separate from the vehicle suggest the drain hoses hook up directly at the corners of the tray near the visible holes.

After messing with my sunroof calibration a bit, i still get a hiss on a tilt close that gets better with a slide close.
I believe my surround gasket needs to be replaced as well and will be doing it soon.

Car Care Nut happened to do a video on this 2 weeks ago with some pointers.
I will also be clearing drain lines while its out.

2 Qs.

1) is the rail grease specific? How bout graphite/silicone spray?

2) will distilled vinegar or a mild cleaner cause any potential issue in the drain lines?

Honestly im doing a lot more QOL jobs than i expected with this truck in general.
Will try not to break anything on this one.

Thanks.

yes there is a tray...this is the best pic i got. Imagine if harmful chemicals/sewage is poured on the car, all the fumes/smell will stink up the cabin.

the only reason I can think of why toyota engineers designed it this way is because of air accumulation/displacement in the hose

Is that in the front corners too?

Sorry to hear about this.

Here's the thing.. if the gasket is in good shape the drains shouldn't clog. But due to UV exposure it shrinks, lets crap through, drains may clog..

Even worse, as the gasket shrinks it allows more water through than even clean drains can handle depending on if the vehicle is on an incline sending all the water to one drain.

I recently ordered a new sunroof gasket to try and refresh mine.. supposedly not available for LC without the whole panel, the LX has the gasket only available. I'll find out if it fits and post.

I'd consider a new gasket. 63251-12190 Double check whether it applies to your year.

As for the harness.... that kind of money justifies a solid go at repairing it. I doubt it's so corroded that you can't go in one by one with the correct parts and crimping tools and refresh the connector. But yeah, it will take a while. That kind of money also justifies a rental car for a while. AND, you won't have to trust a tech to install the entire dash and harness correctly.
Drains clog all the time. Sunroof drains, ac drains, cowl vent drains, door drains, doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter what brand of car you have. And sunroof drain cleaning is an easy fix that everyone should do once a year. Just run a 8 ft length of weed whipper string down the hole to clean it out. Easy.

I didn't make my point well. If the gasket is in good shape it should drastically reduce clogging, especially on trucks that never have the sunroof open like mine. While mine aren't clogged or close to it, a surprising amount of solid crap gets through that "gasket", and my gut is this wouldn't be the case if the gasket were fresh. I don't expect it to be totally water tight.. but it is plausible that if more water gets through than designed it can overwhelm the drains. This very thing happened with my 80 if it was parked at a sideways angle. Totally clear drains, but too much water entering the system for them to deal with. On that truck I just used vinyl tape to address it. My 200 is too nice for that.

Sunroof gaskets are not meant to be 100% water tight. They are meant to minimize water and debris entry and the drains deal with the rest. If you notice, after a rain there is water on the ground under the front windshield cowl and by the rear tires. Those puddles are normal water egress from the various drains on the vehicle. All perfectly normal. You would be amazed how much water goes through a door as water does around the window gaskets.

I dug around in the FSM and parts diagrams but didn't see a specified toyota sunroof grease. Mercedes and VW make some stuff for this application though..

benz 001-989-46-51 $10 (at ECS tuning. Much, much higher elsewhere)
VW G-000-450-02 $26

Concerns for me in this application would be whether it can handle the elevated temps of the roof of a car in the sun without constituents of the grease separating and dripping into the headliner, and whether any of those compounds would attack the plastic parts of the sunroof mechanism. With the similarities in Auto sunroofs I'd have to assume what works for VW and MB will work in our sunroof mechanisms.

I missed this

I said I didn’t expect it to be water tight, otherwise we wouldn’t need the tray and drains, I am saying I think more water may be getting past than is supposed to.

I cleaned the sunroof gasket and opening today. Buildup must have been approaching a millimeter in a couple places.

One bonus of the Raptor, you can order one without a sunroof. Unfortunately, it’s the other stuff you have to worry about. If my 200 was to be left outside often, I’d probably consider disabling the sunroof and wrapping the entire roof.

I hadn’t considered this.. despite that being what I did with my 80. I virtually never open even the internal sunroof shade.

I did get a new sunroof gasket with the big parts sale last year. Mine isn’t in bad shape but I was planning on changing it to freshen it up and mostly as a how-to for the board.

Unplug the sunroof motor and buy some 3M protection wrap to cover the border of the glass. $15 in materials and easy to reverse.

For anyone with a blizzard pearl cruiser Avery SW900 109-S gloss-white pearl is a near exact match. Note that pearl white LX570 is a slightly different color, though if on the roof covering the sunroof it’s probably just fine.
