We have had our 96 80 around 60 days so I figured I would check the alarm and a few other things yesterday.

The alarm is a RS3000 and the keyless entry and some features of the alarm work. But the Status LED would never light up. Plus the remote would only work next to the window.

Well when I pulled off the panel under the steering wheel, I began to see why.

The grey ant. wire was cut as well as unhooked at the ECU.

The 2 wires (purple and brown) going to the LED were snipped very close to it.

The grey shielded wire to the GBS was snipped so close it can't be fixed.

THEN, I saw the harness going from the left side over towards the status LED, GBS was cut. 6 wires total, the 2 to the LED, the grey to the GBS, and 3 others, one red with black stripe, and two larger gauge black ones, one with a white stripe.

What I am planning is to rewire everything except the GBS (maybe purchase new one by itself; does it come with any wire at all to splice into?).

I just don't know what the two black wires and the red w/ black striped wire goes to. The red w/ black comes from the ECU into the GBS ECU, and looks like it also heads to the front through the firewall maybe. The two black wires I was assuming ground or by the instalation instructions maybe starter cut out?

There were also 6 different chassis grounds snipped close to that area.

I won't even get into the Pioneer stereo hack job. Luckily we are putting a JVC in it to match the one in our truck.

Or the fact that every screw or bolt put back in had no regard for where it was suposed to go, the size of it, or even if it was a machine screw, sheet metal screw, or even WOOD SCREWS used in the side of the Pioneer.

AND when they hacked all the wires they failed to put in the heat/AC ducting that goes from the center under the steering column to the L/S floor and L/S upper A/C vents, so I guess I need to get with CDan.

I have checked all the manuals on B's sight, plus the wiring diagrams and didn't come up with the red w/ black wire or the two black ones, one with a white stripe. SO, does anyone know?

AND, will it work to just leave the grey wire going to the GBS unhooked, I would hope basically just leaving me with no GBS capability?

And lastly, can I just get a GBS, or do I have to get a harness, or maybe a staus monitor?
The wire on the GBS is cut FLUSH. At least on the LED they left enough to splice. Plus the GBS wire is shielded or coax.

May the Cruiser Gods forever frown on whoever the hackmonster was who did this. :flipoff2:

Oh boy. PO's suck.

Mine was a salesman/buisnessman type who had about 40 lbs of cell phone wiring and junk in the back. Also pulled all power sources from the fuse box, and left live wires hanging when I bought the truck.

Sorry I can't be of assistance right now.

But, if I were you I'd just go buy an aftermarket system with remote start. No sence in trying to patch what is basically a remote entry system.

Actually doesn't sound like something a po would do, but sounds like it was at a either a butcher shop or it was previously snatched.

I think Junk is on to something....as I read your post it sounds like your truck was stolen at some point...or the alarm was disabled quickly by someone who didn't have a key fob. Just out of curiousity did you run a car fax on it before buying it?

nanuk,

Sorry to hear about the wiring problems. My driver seat and console are coming out this weekend or next so IM me on Friday with the details of what wires you need traced. Mine is a '97 with the RS3000 alarm but the wire colors should be the same.

Post a "wanted" ad here on IH8MUD for the GBS as there are several that have disabled the RS3000 alarm. I am sure it would work OK without the GBS assuming everything else got hooked back to spec.

Good Luck!

what's a GBS?

GBS= Glass Breakage Sensor

It is in the status monitor or the little thing next to the LED on the RS3000 series alarms.

My alarm is still mostly functional except for the GBS and the LED.

Someone wanted to disable certain aspects of the alarm. Knowing very little about the alarm, I would have cut much different wires if I were to steal the Cruiser. The alarm still activates and goes off. The cutting that was done would not even shut off the alarm.

I did do a Carfax, it turned up good. The damage was done by a PO or a hired hack.

Judging by the stereo hack job, I was thinking they may have did the alarm misjustice. The stereo is a 2002 model. If it was done by the type of shop I am thinking of they probaly charged the owner $ for "fixing" his alarm.

The original install of the RS 3000 was not that bad.

I just need to know where a couple wires go, and how to get a GBS with the wire in it. Thanks for the idea Beowulf, I think I will try the wanted ad, that should work. I will PM ya in the next couple days with specifics on the wires.

I may just not worry about the GBS.

Thanks All
