Just for your info, I put a 6.5 Kicker subwoofer in the factory sub spot it bolted right in I just had to modify the pattern a little. I hooked it up to the factory amp until I could fabricate a bracket for my better amp. The Kicker comes in a couple of different versions I'm running a 4 ohm system and it just so happens thats the same as the factory amp. It actually sounded pretty good. The Kicker is the
Kicker 10CVT652 6 1/2" Single 2 Ohm Shallow-Mount Subwoofer (CVT652)

I have the same one that I haven't mounted yet. I've had a Kicker mid-bass in there previously, and even with my Alpine amp powering it, there was very little bass to be heard. I'm not convinced that a free air setup in the factory location, especially using the flimsy OEM bracket that is secured only on three corners, will produce anything remarkable.

When I finally have some time to fabricate a box with fiberglass, I will either use that Kicker 6.5" sub or a Pioneer 8" shallow mount sub in the factory location. If I go 8", the sub will probably have to mount lower down and not line up with the factory grill on the panel. Meanwhile, my 8" Bazooka sounds okay...the only drawback of course if that it's in the way if I fold the rear seats down.
