Hey everybody, I FINALLY got my CRUISER back...YES!!!! So there I was driving smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Alberto, south on HWY 19 in Crystal River, FL. My mom has a place right on the river and the storm surge brought the water up to the back porch. Getting to my mom's house was awsome. I had just picked up my rig from my F-I-L's shop after a 5 months hiadous...she was running sweet after a new radiator and full tune-up!! Of course, before the day was over I took her on flooded roads with water almost to my windows. All I could think of was that great line from "Risky Buisness"---"Who's the U-boat captain?" I ferried several people back and forth out of the neighborhood through tons of water. I know it sucks but you guys will have to take my word for it cause there was to much s*** going on to get a picture. Anyway, I got my cruiser back and I can't think of any better way to test her out than running SAR in a hurricane. Take care and stay dry boys---College Boy

glad you had fun Captain Nemo....sounds like a good time :D

now would be a good time to drain all the water out of your diffs and t-case unless you've extended the breathers on these and refill with fresh gear oil. at the least, I would pull the fill plugs on diffs, t-case, and tranny to check if you did indeed take on any water in those components.

you got sonar on that thing?

we had it in tallahassee all day, too. just lower wind, but plenty of rain. tried to make sure my 60 was not under a tree because i lost my 62 to one last year. the top of an oak fell about 50 feet on the roof, winshield, hood, front quarter panel, etc.

had a 3 month war with the insurance company over actual value... it's a long story and don't want to hijack... just wanted to make sure that college boy did not wait to check / change all those lubricants... C B - this can not wait! also, make sure your drain holes in the bottom of your sheet metal work and are not blocked by mud... if you did any of that driving in brackish water DEFINITELY make sure to rinse all the outside & underneath and anything inside that might have gotten wet, including the inside of the door panel and under the rug if it got wet too.

gonna put breathers on mine when i get to that one on the list.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have not changed the fluids yet but plan to this weekend, it is just resting until then. Power Steer resevoir is not holding fluid though and hence, I have no power steering. It was leaking a bit before I took it to my F-I-L's shop. Guess I will be doing some PS work. Anybody done PS work? I think their is a guy with a thread on the first page. Take care fellas, got a lecture now--CB

Was the water you were traveling through either salty or brackish??? If so, I'd STRONGLY encourage you to rinse the body/undercarriage down within an inch of its life! Salt is one of the only things that can kill a 60 Series.
Sounds like a great afternoon to me!!! Were I in the same predicament, I'd want to be saved by a Cruiser!

Don't forget the front axles.

We got it here, But it was just rain and wind. Kept trying to work on Project Uranus and kept getting chased back inside.

I would check your drivetrain for water, rockers,Q'rs..

i failed to thoroughly enough wash out my old suburban after it went swimmin' in the mud, goo and brackish water. the car died an ugly death of severe body cancer & ulcers. looked like a time lapse documentary of a house being eaten by termites. do not fail to do this NOW... start washing immediately after submersion, not when you get a chance. make the time or just have it towed to the boneyard.

I live right on the beach and after one of the hurricans last year I had to pop the hood and wash out all the sand that was on my engine. I had more rust happen in 3 days than in 3 year time....it was nuts. Sand and salt covered my truck...
