Ok, that sounds right. I'm a very light-footed driver, so I'm probably seeing about the best hiway mileage this motor can get in a 5k lb vehicle. If I’m driving 55-65 steady I can get 26mpg
OK, but you still missed my point: I have a 5,000lb NON-hybrid vehicle (not a land cruiser) with the same motor as the hybrid 250, yet I'm getting substantially BETTER mileage than the LC250 folks.I was assuming the mileage discussion was about the non-hybrid 250.
Aerodynamics.OK, but you still missed my point: I have a 5,000lb NON-hybrid vehicle (not a land cruiser) with the same motor as the hybrid 250, yet I'm getting substantially BETTER mileage than the LC250 folks.
Curb weight on Toyota.com for Highlander is 1000lbs less than LC-250. More aerodynamic. Lighter tires. Who knows what else with the programed fuel map, gear ratios, etc...OK, but you still missed my point: I have a 5,000lb NON-hybrid vehicle (not a land cruiser) with the same motor as the hybrid 250, yet I'm getting substantially BETTER mileage than the LC250 folks.
I think toyota does that to protect the fuel pumps from overheating. every yota ive owned has always had about 3 gallons left when its reading 0 miles of range. Not sure on the 250, but our Highlander Hybrid had something like three gallons of fuel in it when the tank got to 0 miles of range. We found this out when we had ~30 miles of estimated range to travel ~17 miles to a gas station, only to have the range drop to 0 with ~1 mile to go. I ended up babying the rig the last mile on EV mode (luckily it had plenty of battery charge), only to fill it up and realize the range estimate was conservative by around 100 miles! It's not the first vehicle I've had like that either, my old Mazda 3 hatch was the same way - 3 gallons left in the tank at empty.
You could always drive the LC250 down to 0 on the range estimate before filling up to see how far off it actually is. I'm guessing these inaccuracies are caused by the complex shape of modern fuel tanks.
