I've been debating the next vehicle purchase for some time while looking at GX460's, GX470's, assorted Cruisers, or maybe a Sequoia.

I wanted something off-road capable, with good interior space, in a somewhat compact package to utilize some of Colorado's tighter trails. I want to be able to bring a pretty serious sound rig into the wilderness, for remote events like dance parties, weddings, etc.

I was fortunate to have a 2013 GX460 Premium come up in my price range, with 140k on the odometer. The plan is to build out the back to transport the sensitive electronics (amp rack, turntables, mixer) and camp gear, and to acquire a maneuverable off-road trailer for the speakers and generators. The build out will likely include suspension, skid plates, and bumpers, but I plan to hit the trail a bit to see what I'll really need to accomplish my goals.

In addition, I also found a 1963, soft top, FJ40 at the same time. I was able to close both deals on the same day. The GX towed the FJ from Denver to Vail without a hiccup. The FJ will get whatever maintenance it needs, but will likely remain close to it's current form. It seems to be a fairly intact, early, example.

I couldn't be more excited to make some stories with these vehicles.

Cheers,
GoldenBeat

Wow! Quite an exciting day!
Yeah, I'd keep the FJ40 as close to stock as possible, with exception of maybe tires if you're going to wheel it at all.
See if you can find stock steelie wheels for it and maybe a hardtop.
That's just money in the bank for your retirement.

I think you won the vehicle lottery, outstanding!

If you don't need the seating capacity of the GX second and third rows I highly recommend removing them, gaining payload and space.

That is definitely a part of the plan! I wasn't worried about the wear the 5 year old put on the back seats for that very reason.

I removed both rows and associated trim IIRC it netted me 300 lbs of weight loss that I promptly replaced with 170 lbs drawer/sleep platform made by Truckvault.

I have owned 4 fj40s , 69 through 71 , did not pay more than $1500.00 for any of them

Okay, I have to ask, when did you purchase these classics <$1,500? in the 1980's/90's?
Because I think even a "barn" find of one of these beauties now will be 5 figures in almost any condition.
But I could be wrong. I probably should go over to the FJ40's forum for the facts.
... Naaah, too lazy...

Deals are great, but without more information your statement doesn't seem to pertain to the vehicles I picked up. I didn't mention the price of either, because I'm happy with what I paid in the current market.

I love the FJ. I need to replace some hoses, and seal a few things up, but what a good looking '63 with an early VIN.

You're correct , from 1986 to 1995 . The last one I paid $250 for it , needed clutch and to be put back together .
The other 3 were intact , 2 of them were very good
