I accidentally hit a mud puddle at the mall

With all jokes aside I figured I would start the conversation up about hitting awful muddy terrain. And clean up. Not sure who else here is putting theirs though the paces but I thought it would be a good start to talk about all things waterproofing, cleanup, etc. when dealing with awful trail conditions.

Basically I went to an event on a track with several jumps turns etc that was saturated with rain, complete soup. I could not get over 30-40mph without it being too risky with the sliding. Also went through some technical course with huge ups and dips and pits etc. portions of it would lean you to press you against your driver window, other ups you could not see past the other side. All fun and challenging, one of the days I did it all with 6 passengers to enjoy the fun.

It was a blast 😃 and ended up meeting a guy with a 470 and FJ out there.

Put a regular garden sprinkler underneath and let it do its thing for a few hours while you occasionally move it to different spots under the car can get things pretty clean without having to pressure wash mud directly into your face.
Also dropping skid plates to make sure everything is cleaned and washed from underneath is a good idea.

Yeah, it's a blast busting through mud and muddy puddles and changing the color to matte desert Army tan, but having off roaded for many years now, after several times coming home with my rig looking like that, and spending the better part of a day pressure washing every little nook 'n cranny, I now tiptoe through mud and puddles.
Sometimes the mud is either so thick or it's clay, that it's almost impossible to get off the under carriage.
But I don't mind when others do it and post their photos! :D

I feel you on this haha I was contemplating how many more times I want to do this or how I can better set up a cleaning bay with lift etc.

That's a great idea 💡 you really think it will work with things caked deep within and over rails etc. I had to use angled nozzle extensions and many other tricks to get it to come out of all the places packed/buried within the frame, hardware etc. ?

Yeah dropping all skids is a must, as well as jacking it up and removing tires etc. what a mess

Oof, that'll be dripping off on your face for years. Call a bunch of your local auto detailers and see if they'll do steam cleaning on a lift. I'd pay them to do that with the skids removed, even after all of you washing. That junk gets in every nook and cranny from every conceivable angle that you can never replicate with any kind of sprinkler, hose, or pressure washer. Good luck, man. But seriously, better you than me...

It saves a lot of time since you can do other stuff while the sprinkler is running. You will probably still have to check all the nooks and crannies and have the power washer available, but you will only need to power wash the tricky spots instead of entire underbody.

Such a truthful, accurate and hurtful response 😭 hahaha 😂 I can not agree more. I'm going to install a sprinkler system all over underneath with a ton of sprinkler heads and stainless steel pipe all through out connect it to my switch panel and turn it on when I think it's going to get bad lol 😆 and if that doesn't work I'm going to ratched strap the gx to a skid steer and shake it up and down until all of it falls out.

I like this idea a lot, looking into getting a purpose built one or making my own or finding some kind of high pressure upward angle one to stick under and just saturate the underneath and move it around as you said.

Where the hell is this "mall" with this mud puddle you speak of?

FYI, the worst thing known to man is to clean that engine bay after these sorts of mud puddles...

Oh, and you should invest in one of these too.

Haha I did it at Hyperfest, their off road track and technical course at VIR.

Yeah j have one of those, it's 10000% completely useless, especially with a GX that's high up, especially with it lifted and the limited pressure now divided into several nozzles.
